Holstein Kiel relegated from Bundesliga.

If Bochum's failure to stay in the league was expected, Holstein Kiel's "bitter ending" left many people regretful. At home at the Holstein-Stadion, Holstein Kiel started promisingly when Lasse Rosenboom opened the scoring in the 24th minute after an assist from Japanese star Shuto Machino. However, Freiburg's superiority in class was demonstrated when the visitors came back to win 2-1 thanks to goals from Johan Manzambi and Lucas Holer.

At the same time, Heidenheim - a direct competitor in the relegation race - won convincingly 3-0 against Union Berlin. This result officially relegated Holstein Kiel when they only had 25 points, 4 points behind Heidenheim with only 1 round left.

However, the fight for survival is not over for Heidenheim - they are two points behind St. Pauli and are forced to wait for the result of St. Pauli's match against Frankfurt on May 11. If St. Pauli win, Heidenheim will have to participate in a play-off against the third-placed team in Bundesliga 2.

Despite not being able to stay in the top flight, Holstein Kiel still left an impression with their resilient fighting spirit in recent matches, including wins against Borussia Mönchengladbach, Augsburg and a draw against Leipzig. Most notably, striker Shuto Machino has been in fine form with 11 goals in the Bundesliga and a total of 17 in all competitions this season.

Now, Holstein Kiel must prepare for a new journey in Bundesliga 2 season 2025/26, while the relegation battle is still intense in the final round with the participation of Heidenheim and St.Pauli.
