Two Vietnamese national team stars nominated by AFF for special title

Regarding the performance of Nguyen Tien Linh and his teammates in the match against Laos (December 9), the homepage of the 2024 Southeast Asian Football Championship (AFF Cup) wrote: "Coach Kim Sang-sik's team had difficulty finding a goal against the home team Laos. It was not until the 58th minute that the Vietnamese team broke the deadlock thanks to Nguyen Hai Long. However, it was Tien Linh who calmed the Vietnamese team's nerves with a low-corner finish just 7 minutes later, helping to raise the score to 2-0."

Tien Linh is on the list of nominees for the best player in the first round of the group stage of the AFF Cup 2024.

"Nguyen Tien Linh shared the top scorer title (6 goals) with Teerasil Dangda (Thailand), when Vietnam won the runner-up position at the AFF Cup 2022. The 27-year-old Vietnamese striker is expected to be able to repeat the same achievement in this year's tournament, after an impressive start against the Laos team with a 4-1 victory," the AFF Cup homepage added.

Besides Vietnam's Tien Linh, the list of nominees for the best player of the first round of the AFF Cup 2024 group stage also includes Suphanat Mueanta (Thailand), Kim Sokyuth (Cambodia) and Dony Tri Pamungkas (Indonesia).

Hai Long scored a beautiful goal to open the score for the Vietnamese team in the match against Laos.

Strong teams like Thailand and Indonesia both won their opening matches of the 2024 AFF Cup. Thailand defeated Timor Leste 10-0, while Indonesia narrowly defeated Myanmar 1-0. Cambodia caused a surprise when they drew 2-2 with Malaysia.

Not only Nguyen Tien Linh was honored by AFF, Nguyen Hai Long's goal against Laos was also on the list of beautiful goals after the first match of the group stage. "The goal started from a precise long pass from center-back Bui Tien Dung. Hai Long accelerated to receive the ball and fired a powerful shot that goalkeeper Xaysavath Souvanhnasok had no chance to block, opening the score for the Vietnamese team," AFF commented.
