Hang Pu Xi revived after the flood - Faith cannot be washed away

(Chinhphu.vn) - Hang Pu Xi is not only a bright spot in post-disaster reconstruction, but also a lesson in how to put people at the center of policy. There, each brick is not only to build a house, but to build trust. Each new roof tile not only protects from the rain and sun, but is the beginning of a safer, more sustainable life for people in the highlands.

Hang Pu Xi village (Xa Dung commune, Dien Bien province) is home to the Mong ethnic group, nestled between rugged mountain slopes, where life is already difficult and is often threatened by natural disasters.

Recalling the time at 3am on August 1, 2025, the sound of rushing water from upstream made the village panic. The flood suddenly swept away and buried everything (fields, houses, belongings...). After the water receded, only a thick layer of mud remained everywhere. Almost all the people of Hang Pu Xi village were left empty-handed.

But a miracle happened, the village has now revived, not only with new houses built from the rubble, but also in the faith of the people here.

Lightning-fast reconstruction on the high mountains

According to Colonel Thao A Cua, Deputy Commander of Dien Bien Provincial Military Command, immediately after the flood passed, implementing the direction of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of National Defense , the Provincial Military Command coordinated with local authorities to urgently deploy construction and repair of houses for damaged households in communes of Dien Bien province.

Currently, in Hang Pu Xi village alone, 20 new houses have been built in the resettlement area out of a total of 321 houses that have been built and repaired in the whole province, with over 26,000 working days by more than 600 cadres, soldiers, militia and mass organizations participating.

Colonel Thao A Cua shared: "We closely coordinate with departments, branches and localities to carefully review each damaged household, clearly classifying cases that need to be rebuilt, repaired or relocated. Thereby, we assess the actual situation, report to competent authorities and organize implementation. Initially, we focus on building single houses in areas where there are no resettlement areas. After that, we continue to repair houses that have been partially washed away or collapsed, to help people have housing again as soon as possible."

Not only building houses, but also building in extremely difficult terrain conditions. The road to the village is narrow, slippery, many sections of dirt road have been eroded after the flood. Transporting construction materials is extremely difficult.

"There were some villages where cars could not enter, so we had to coordinate with socio -political organizations, youth union members and people to carry materials on foot for 2-3 km to ensure the set progress," Colonel Thao A Cua recounted.

Hope spreads from a small village

Back when the flood hit in the early morning of August 1, when most of the people in Hang Pu Xi village were still sleeping in the thick rain, Village Chief Mua A Thi did not hesitate to run from house to house, knocking on each door, shouting for urgent evacuation. His quick thinking and bravery helped the whole village escape the disaster by a hair's breadth.

Today, Mua A Thi choked up when he saw the village changing day by day. He shared: "On behalf of the people of Hang Pu Xi village, I would like to thank the Party, the State, the Military Command of Dien Bien province and the local government. Thanks to the timely attention and support, today, all the people have new houses and no longer have to worry every time it rains."

No more blank eyes after natural disasters, no more worries before each heavy rain. Faith in life returns, quietly but strongly, just like the people here.

Mr. Mua A Va, a villager, emotionally said: "With a house as sturdy as this, people no longer have to worry about landslides or rocks collapsing on their houses at midnight."

Hang Pu Xi today is not only revived with new roofs, but also with the spirit of solidarity, the will to overcome difficulties and the strong support from the humane social security policy of the Party and the State. That is a living proof of the commitment "No one is left behind".

In recent days, storms No. 10 and 11 have caused heavy damage to many localities.

As the whole country continues to struggle to overcome the consequences of two consecutive storms No. 10 and 11, which caused heavy damage in many provinces and cities, the story of Hang Pu Xi's revival has become a symbol of hope.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, as of the afternoon of October 15, the floods after storm No. 11 alone have flooded more than 239,000 houses, damaged 2,150 houses, and flooded and eroded over 2,100 traffic points... Many localities are still actively counting the damage and implementing reconstruction measures.

And among those cold numbers, the image of a small village in the highlands of Dien Bien province overcoming the disaster, rising strongly from the support of the entire political system, is like a strong affirmation: Even if the flood swept away everything, with determination and humanity, everything can be rebuilt stronger and more stable.
