Hundreds of "billion dollar trees" were uprooted and broken after 30 minutes of heavy rain in a district of Lam Dong.

After only 30 minutes of heavy rain and tornado, more than 200 durian trees in Da Teh district ( Lam Dong province) were uprooted and broken, causing severe damage.

On the afternoon of November 5, Mr. Pham Xuan Tien - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Da Teh district (Lam Dong province) said that at around 2:00 p.m. the same day, in residential group 7, Da Teh town and village 7, Da Kho commune (Da Teh district), there was heavy rain with a tornado lasting more than 30 minutes.

The heavy rain and tornado caused hundreds of trees of all kinds to be uprooted and broken, causing heavy damage to the people. In particular, residential group 7, Da Teh town was the place with the most damage due to the tornado concentrated in this area.

After the heavy rain and tornado, in the above area, a total of 217 durian trees of more than 10 households in the business period from 4 to 8 years old were uprooted and broken by the tornado. In addition, about 100 jackfruit, grapefruit and cashew trees of many households were also uprooted and broken; about 1.5 hectares of corn crops of the people were damaged.

Not only the crops in Da Teh town, in Da Kho commune, heavy rain and tornado also blew off the roofs of 2 houses and uprooted and broke more than 10 durian trees of 3 households. Fortunately, heavy rain and tornado only damaged crops, no one was injured.

Currently, the People's Committee of Da Teh district has directed functional agencies to coordinate with Da Teh town and Da Kho commune to deploy measures to overcome the consequences, focus on calculating the damage to have a support plan for the people.
