A source familiar with the situation told TASS news agency that the first Sarmat regiment, consisting of a command post and several launchers, will go on combat duty as part of the Uzhur missile formation of the Strategic Missile Forces in December this year.
According to another TASS source, the regiment is currently on combat training duty in the above-mentioned formation.
The first launch within the framework of the Sarmat missile development tests took place successfully on April 20, 2022.
Sarmat is Russia's most modern silo-based missile system equipped with a heavy liquid-fueled ICBM capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.
The Sarmat's basic warhead is equivalent to 50 megatons of TNT, and is equipped with a variety of decoys to fool enemy defense systems. The warheads have a maximum speed of 24,900 km/h, use an independent guidance system to attack multiple targets, and can also change direction during the reentry phase to avoid interception.
The complex is designed to replace the Voevoda missiles currently in service with the Russian Strategic Missile Forces.
