Dong Trieu City is one of the localities with a large number of Veterans Association members, with 9,530 people. The Veterans Association has promoted the tradition and qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers by actively participating in local political tasks, in which many members are shining examples in economic development. Currently, the whole city has 17 small and medium enterprises, 25 garden and hill farm owners, attracting over 1,700 Veterans Association members to participate. The models have promoted economic values, creating jobs for children of members in the area.
CCB Pham Van Quy (Mao Khe ward, Dong Trieu city), a 4/4 war invalid, after leaving the army returned to his hometown and carried the consequences of the war. Although his health was affected, but promoting the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldier "disabled but not useless", Mr. Quy determined to start building a family ceramic production facility. After more than 30 years of construction and development, up to now, on average, Mr. Quy's facility has produced about 1.8 million jars of all kinds per month, with a revenue of about 1.2 billion VND, creating jobs for about 20 workers, mainly children of veterans and war invalids in the area.
According to veteran Pham Van Quy, the initial start-up period encountered many difficulties, with no capital, having to borrow from banks and workers. However, with his own efforts, perseverance in learning and exploring, and encouragement from family, relatives and friends, the pottery workshop's activities have grown with a stable output market, creating jobs for many of his comrades' children with a stable income of 15 to 20 million VND/person/month.
Promoting the qualities of soldiers, many veterans in Ha Long City always uphold the spirit of self-awareness, exemplary leadership in all circumstances; helping, encouraging, supporting each other to actively participate in the movement of good production and business, building new rural areas, civilized urban areas. Up to now, there have been thousands of CCB members who own economic development models, including 29 enterprises, 17 cooperatives, 114 farms, and hundreds of members who are good at production and business with revenue from hundreds of millions to tens of billions of VND/year. The number of rich and well-off veteran members is increasing, accounting for 72%, there are no more poor or near-poor members.
Veteran Vu Minh Thuong (Son Duong commune, Ha Long city) is also a bright example of a pioneer and a leading role model in economic development. Born and raised in Hai Duong city, leaving the army to return to his hometown, in 1987, Mr. Thuong went to Quang Ninh to start a business with nothing and started to develop his family's economy from a fruit tree model. Initially, he focused on growing Taiwanese guava and green-skinned grapefruit. Up to now, Mr. Thuong has expanded his family's area to about 5 hectares. In addition to growing fruit trees, he focuses on developing an experiential eco-tourism model and established the Toan Phu Agricultural and Forestry Service and Production Cooperative, of which he is the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director. After 2 years, the Cooperative has been operating stably, and Mr. Thuong's family's tourism service business alone attracts many tourists to visit and experience. Each year, it welcomes about 1,000 people with a total profit of about 1 billion VND.
Veteran Vu Minh Thuong, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Director of Toan Phu Agricultural and Forestry Production and Service Cooperative, said: With the qualities of a soldier, as long as you are healthy, you can contribute, so in addition to actively participating in work activities, taking on many roles in local associations and organizations, I myself also want to focus on developing the family economy, getting rich legitimately, and at the same time helping my brothers and comrades develop together to have a better life. Currently, the cooperative has 10 members, of which 3 are members of the Veterans Association, all households have a life from well-off to above.
The movement of veterans helping each other to do business in the province has recently developed in terms of quantity, scale and efficiency. Currently, the province has 174 small and medium enterprises, 27 cooperatives, 3 cooperative groups, 120 farms, 593 family farms, over 1,300 production and business households managed by veterans, creating jobs and stable income for more than 16,000 local workers.
The war has passed, now in peacetime life, the soldiers of the past are always optimistic, believe in life and shine with the noble qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers; continue to strive to contribute to the socio-economic development of the locality and are a shining example for today's young generation to learn and follow.
