Delegates visited the model of raising catfish on the Son La hydroelectric reservoir.
The model is implemented on a scale of 1,000m3 of cages/2 years (Hoa Binh 700m3, Son La 300m3). Participating households have sufficient conditions and cage systems that meet the requirements of the model. Each household is provided with quality catfish fry and is supported with bran, disease prevention medicine, Vitamin C, and digestive enzymes. In addition, technical staff train households participating in the model, applying good techniques from cage construction, commercial fish farming techniques to fish care and disease prevention. Households participating in the model are granted VietGAP certification for cage-raised catfish products... During the implementation process, model leaders regularly check and supervise participating households to comply with technical requirements.
In 2023, after 11 months of farming, the average survival rate of fish reached 91.3%; the average weight reached 1.21kg/fish; the yield reached 22.1kg/m3 of cage. In 2024, after 11 months of farming, the survival rate of fish reached 91.5%; the weight reached 1.23kg/fish; the yield reached 22.5kg/m3 of cage.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Sang, Thung Nai commune, Cao Phong district, Hoa Binh province shared: Selected by the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center to support the implementation of the model, after receiving the baby catfish and being instructed on farming techniques, my family proactively applied the biosafety farming process, fully recorded the diary of care, feeding, and disease treatment for the fish. Like other catfish breeds, the baby catfish adapts quickly and is quite suitable for commercial farming on hydroelectric reservoirs.
Mr. Tong Van Quoc, Chieng Lao commune, Muong La district, Son La province said: Participating in the model of linking production and consumption of safe fish in the locality helps open up many development opportunities, increase product value and family income.
The implementation of the model of raising catfish in cages according to VietGAP standards is a demonstration point for local cage fish farming households to visit and learn from experience. Households participating in the model will propagate, continue to advise and guide local households on technical processes to apply in raising catfish, replicate the model in the community, contribute to opening up a new direction of economic development, creating jobs and income for households in the reservoir area.
