24h Press Images: US and Chinese Defense Ministers directly discuss Taiwan and the East Sea issues

Meeting on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue 2024 on May 31, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun discussed the Taiwan issue, the war in Ukraine, the Gaza Strip, and especially tensions in the East Sea.

This is the first face-to-face meeting between the US and Chinese defense ministers in 18 months. The Shangri-La Dialogue 2024 is a gathering of senior defense and security officials from many Asian countries. This year's Shangri-La Dialogue takes place in Singapore from May 31 to June 2.
