Accordingly, patient TTP, residing in Trang Dai ward, Dong Nai province, was admitted to the hospital with severe back pain, almost unable to sit up or walk on her own. The prolonged pain caused Ms. P. to suffer from insomnia for many days and become completely dependent on her family's care. Previously, she had received medical treatment with painkillers and a support brace, but without much improvement.

The results of the medical examination and imaging showed that Ms. P. had D12 vertebral collapse on a background of severe osteoporosis - a common condition in the elderly, especially postmenopausal women. Without timely intervention, the patient is at risk of reduced mobility, spinal deformity, and disability.
After consultation, Dr. Trinh Van Phuong, Specialist II, Neurosurgery Unit, Dong Nai Hospital -2, proposed the method of injecting biological cement to remedy the patient's condition.
"This is a minimally invasive intervention that helps stabilize collapsed vertebrae, providing rapid pain relief, restoring mobility, and limiting complications from prolonged bed rest. The method is particularly useful for elderly patients or those with complex underlying conditions," Dr. Phuong emphasized.
Using specialized needles, bio-cement is injected into the vertebral body to restore spinal stability and reduce pressure on nerve structures. Immediately after surgery, the elderly woman experienced a significant reduction in back pain, was able to sit up and begin moving around sooner, and was able to limit the use of strong painkillers – a group of drugs that can cause many side effects in the elderly.
