The siblings Nguyen Le Van Khanh, born in 2010, and Nguyen Van Minh, born in 2012, from Yen Tu ward, are in difficult circumstances. Their parents divorced, and they live with their mother, who suffers from a brain tumor; they live far from their hometown and have no relatives nearby... In April 2024, the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the Detention Center (Provincial Police) sponsored each of them, providing them with one million dong per month until they turn 18.
With the care and support of their godparents, who are officers and soldiers at the Detention Center (Provincial Police), Khánh and Minh, in addition to taking care of their mother, have continuously strived to excel in their studies. Last school year, Vân Khánh successfully passed the entrance exam to Uông Bí High School and participated in the "Summer of Love" camp organized by the Ministry of Public Security .
Van Khanh shared: "Not only do they visit regularly and send gifts, but the police mothers who are my godmothers also call daily to remind, encourage, and guide me in taking care of my mother and to focus on my studies. This is an incredibly great support, helping me overcome my worries and concentrate on my studies." Van Khanh confided that she is determined to pass the entrance exam to the Military Medical Academy to become a military doctor and help many people, especially those in difficult circumstances like herself.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Bao Ngoc, Deputy Superintendent of the Detention Center (Provincial Police), said: In addition to sponsoring Khanh and Minh until they turn 18, the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the detention center will continue to closely monitor, guide, and support them in choosing a profession to establish themselves in the future. Furthermore, the unit has also directed the sub-departments in the localities to continue reviewing cases of children with particularly difficult circumstances to provide sponsorship.
Driven by a desire to bring about positive changes, compensate for the hardships faced by disadvantaged children, and help them confidently thrive in life, police officers acting as foster parents in the province have extended their loving arms to care for, nurture, and assist 50 underprivileged children across the province. Along with providing economic and material support, these police foster parents also regularly coordinate with local police forces and socio-political organizations to monitor the children's education, support them in their studies and daily lives, guide them in self-protection and self-care skills, and provide psychological counseling, giving them a foundation, confidence, and the strength to strive for success in their studies and lives, ultimately becoming useful citizens for society.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Bui Thi Thuy Hien, Head of the Women's Committee (Provincial Police), life is not always easy; there are losses and hardships that the children have had to face at a young age. But they are not alone on this journey. Beside them are their godmothers and godfathers, police officers, and many other loving people who are always there to support and watch over them. Although the road ahead is long, the godmothers and godfathers of the Provincial Police are committed to always accompanying the children, helping them overcome all difficulties. The godmothers also hope that the children will strive, always be well-behaved, study hard, live with determination, have dreams, and have compassion so that in the future they will become useful members of society and inspire others – just as they have inspired their godmothers and godfathers in police uniforms today.
