(VTC News) - Coach Kim Sang-sik may not lead U22 Vietnam to focus all his strength on the matches against Thailand and Russia at LPBank Cup 2024.
According to VTC News reporters, coach Kim Sang-sik is considering many possibilities to finalize the training plan for the Vietnam national team and U22 Vietnam. It is possible that the Korean strategist will only monitor U22 Vietnam for a few days while the team is at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center. After that, U22 Vietnam may be assigned to coach Nam Gung-do. The team will go to China to participate in an international friendly tournament organized by host China. The tournament will take place from September 2 to September 10 in Changsha city with the participation of teams from Vietnam, Malaysia, Uzbekistan and host China.

Coach Kim Sang-sik left open the possibility that Mr. Hua Hien Vinh or Mr. Choi Won Kwon will take on the role of head coach. Mr. Choi is the closest assistant in terms of expertise. Meanwhile, U22 Vietnam played a friendly tournament with many players aged only 19-21. Therefore, it is Coach Hua Hien Vinh who understands the players he has worked with the most during the past time. At the national team level, the friendly tournament in September will play a particularly important role. Since taking on the new job, Mr. Kim has only played 2 matches in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia. The Korean coach needs more quality friendly matches to test his personnel plan, thereby building a new framework for the Vietnamese team. Coach Kim Sang-sik has just announced the call-up list with many old names returning to the team such as Thanh Chung, Hong Duy, Que Ngoc Hai and Phan Van Duc. According to the plan, the Vietnamese team will start training from August 30 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center. Coach Kim Sang Sik and his team will have 6 days to prepare for the opening match against the Russian team at the LPBank Cup 2024. After that, Quang Hai and his teammates will meet the Thai team.
