In front of nearly 20,000 spectators in Lach Tray, the Vietnamese women's team played with determination but the team could not close the gap against an Australia team that was completely superior in terms of physical strength and physique. In addition, the ability to finish situations was not good, causing the home team to accept a regrettable 1-2 defeat, continuing to extend the thirst for the AFF/ASEAN Cup title to 6 years.

After the match, Coach Mai Duc Chung gave an interview and emphasized the efforts of his players. He also expressed regret that the team could not bring joy to the fans who covered Lach Tray Stadium in red on the evening of August 16.

“I would like to thank the fans. It has been a long time since we have received support like this. The Vietnamese women's team tried hard in the second half, but unfortunately we still lost to U23 Australia,” said coach Mai Duc Chung.

Vietnamese players are often at a disadvantage in one-on-one disputes.

He promised to perform better in the third-place match to win consolation: “We did not do well in this semi-final, we must do better in the next match. Thailand is an opponent we know well, so the Vietnamese women's team needs to play tight and enter the game well to win.”

Sharing the same feeling as the 74-year-old coach was Bich Thuy, the midfielder who scored the only goal for the team. She seemed to cry during the press conference. She said: "At this time, we are very sad because we cannot contribute a match as expected. The coach reminded us a lot but the team did not start well. Personally, I will shock the spirit for the last match to win the bronze medal."

Thus, Vietnam has just had to play the third-place match for the second consecutive time. In the 2022 tournament, the team lost 3-4 to Myanmar after a series of defensive mistakes at the end of the match. But that was Vietnam's only defeat in 6 times playing the third-place match, the team won all 5 remaining matches. Can the fate of competing for the bronze medal help coach Mai Duc Chung and his team enjoy joy in the match on August 19?
