Thai media reported this afternoon (October 30) that coach Masatada Ishii has agreed to lead BG Pathum United. This decision was made by Mr. Ishii, just a few days after the Japanese coach was fired from the position of coach of the Thai national team.

Notably, BG Pathum United Club is the opponent of Hanoi Police Club (CAHN) in the 2025-2026 Southeast Asian Cup C1.
That means coach Masatada Ishii will soon face coach Mano Polking, who is leading CAHN Club. Both of them have led the Thai national team through the periods.
Coach Masatada Ishii has experience working with Thai football. He led Samut Prakan City Club in 2019. Then, from 2021 to 2023, the Japanese coach led Buriram United Club.
Previously, coach Masatada Ishii won the J-League championship with Kashima Antlers Club (Japan) in 2016. Also in this year, Mr. Ishii won the FIFA Club World Cup runner-up position, also with Kashima Antlers.
Since 2023, Coach Ishii has led the Thai national team. However, after the Thai team lost to the Vietnamese team in the final of the AFF Cup 2024, Mr. Ishii's reputation with the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) has significantly declined. On October 16, FAT decided to fire Coach Ishii.
