Currently, the position of captain of the Indonesian team is still vacant after the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) decided to fire Mr. Patrick Kluivert. The main reason is said to be because the "archipelago" team could not win a ticket to the 2026 World Cup finals.
In the context of PSSI looking for new candidates, with names such as Frank De Boer and Timur Kapadze mentioned. Mr. Shin Tae Yong also unexpectedly spoke up to confirm his interest.
In an interview with Goalpost, the Korean strategist emphasized that the door to return to work in Indonesia is always open.
"If there is an offer in the future, of course I will consider it. But my principle is that if there is a good offer, I am willing to accept it anywhere," Mr. Shin said.
Notably, Mr. Shin particularly prioritized Indonesia.
“Honestly, my heart is still with Indonesia. Even if there is a slightly better offer from another country, but Indonesia makes an offer with sincerity, they are still my first choice,” he affirmed.
However, he also confirmed that up to now, PSSI has not had any official contact: “Not yet. There has been absolutely no official call or offer.”
Coach Shin Tae Yong led the Indonesian national team from 2020 to 2025. Under his guidance, Indonesian football has created many historical milestones, including passing the group stage for the first time at an Asian Cup and reaching the semi-finals of the 2024 AFC U23 Championship.
At present, PSSI has not made any announcement regarding the appointment of a new coach for the team. The schedule for the matches within the framework of FIFA Days in November has not been announced.
