On August 9, Mr. Le Hong Ha - Head of the Market Management Department of Gia Lai province - said that the authorities are handling 100 tons of frozen pork that smells bad at a business in Hoai An commune.

Previously, Market Management Team No. 1, Gia Lai Province Market Management Department coordinated with the Provincial Police to suddenly inspect the business establishment of Mr. Le Van Huong (residing in Hoai An commune).

Upon inspection, authorities discovered 100 tons of frozen pork that had changed color and smelled bad, including suckling pig and roast pig, with a total value of more than 18 billion VND.

At the time of inspection, Mr. Huong presented a business registration certificate and a food safety certificate issued by the former Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Binh Dinh province, which were still valid.

Mr. Huong's family buys pigs from many sources, packs them in plastic bags, and puts them in cold storage. They wait for the African swine fever epidemic to pass before gradually selling them to the market.

All of the pork had no documents proving its origin, no tracking book; the packaging also had no information about its origin. Some of the pigs had signs of spots on their ears, tails, legs, bellies, and chests, along with discoloration and a foul odor.

To prevent the risk of spreading disease, harming livestock, crops and the environment, authorities have agreed to destroy all of the above pork.

Through verification, Gia Lai Provincial Police found that the incident had no signs of criminality.
