Three newly completed ferries have just arrived at the port to serve the people of the province.
Specifically, Tan Phu ferry terminal will build 3 new 100-ton ferries (replacing ferries H.100, N.100, K.100) with the Department of Transport as the investor. Rach Mieu temporary wharf will build 1 new 100-ton ferry to replace Y.100 with the Ferry Management Center and Ben Tre Bus Station as the investors. Currently, 3 ferries have moved to the wharf and put into service, with 1 remaining at the end of June 2023.
Phan Duc Thinh, Director of Ben Tre Ferry and Bus Station Management Center, said: The project to build a new 100-ton ferry to replace the Y.100 ferry at Rach Mieu temporary ferry terminal has a total cost of 14.7 billion VND. In addition, the Ministry of Transport has decided to approve the construction of 3 new ferries to replace 3 ferries that have expired at Tan Phu ferry terminal on National Highway 57B, with a total investment of 14.291 billion VND for each ferry.
Currently, Tan Phu ferry operates continuously from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Outside of these hours, if passengers need to rent a ferry, the ferry will be put into operation. Tan Phu ferry terminal has about 94 trips/day. At Rach Mieu temporary ferry terminal, the total number of ferry trips operating in the first 5 months of 2023 is 15,534 trips, an average of 103 trips/day.
According to Decree No. 111/2014/ND-CP regulating the service life of inland waterway vehicles and the service life of imported waterway vehicles, the current ferries in operation have expired, and building new ferries to replace them is very necessary to ensure traffic safety for river crossings and ensure smooth traffic on the route.
