Rotor installation completed for Hoa Binh Hydropower Expansion Project

(Chinhphu.vn) - Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) said that at 10:18 a.m. on October 7, at the construction site of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion (Hoa Binh Ward, Phu Tho Province), EVN and Power Project Management Board 1 coordinated with contractors to successfully install the rotor of Unit 2 of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion Project, thereby completing the rotor installation of the entire project.

Successfully installed rotor of unit 2 of Hoa Binh Hydropower Expansion Project

Previously, Unit 1 was also completed and successfully connected to the grid on August 19, 2025, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day September 2.

The rotor of Unit 1 and Unit 2 of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Extension Project weighs about 585 tons and is the rotating part of the generator. To ensure the planned progress, all stator and rotor assembly work of the two units as well as turbine installation work are always carefully calculated by the investor, the supervising consultant and the installation unit, and every detail is checked throughout the entire process.

The completion of the rotor installation of Unit 2 is an important milestone, creating a premise to continue implementing many electromechanical installation items, moving towards testing and operating the unit with the goal of generating electricity from Unit 2 in November 2025 and completing the entire Hoa Binh Hydropower Expansion Project in 2025, practically welcoming the 14th National Congress of the Party.

The Hoa Binh Hydropower Expansion Project is an important national project, approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 389/QD-TTg dated April 10, 2018. The project is invested by EVN, represented by the Power Project Management Board 1.

The project has a total investment of over 9,220 billion VND, implemented with the following objectives: Increasing peak capacity for the national power system, improving the economic exploitation and operation capacity of Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant in the system.

Along with that, the Project helps improve the frequency regulation and frequency stabilization capabilities of the national power system, contributing to reducing the operating costs of the national power system; reducing the working intensity of existing generators, thereby prolonging the life of equipment, saving maintenance and repair costs.
