The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center - Institute of Earth Sciences (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) has just released information about the earthquake.
Accordingly, at about 16:42:48 ( Hanoi time) on October 7, an earthquake of magnitude 3.4 occurred at the coordinates 22.936 degrees North latitude, 105.938 degrees East longitude, with a focal depth of about 16.5 km. The earthquake occurred in Can Yen commune, Cao Bang province. Natural disaster risk level 0.
Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Director of the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center, said that this was a small earthquake that occurred on the Cao Bang - Tien Yen fault zone (level 2), in the Northwest - Southeast direction, running from China through Cao Bang to Quang Ninh.
In addition to the earthquake in Cao Bang, there were also 5 earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.4 in Mang Ri and Mang But communes, Quang Ngai province. All earthquakes had a natural disaster risk level of 0.
Unlike the earthquake in Cao Bang, the earthquake in Quang Ngai is a stimulated earthquake, closely related to the water storage activities of reservoirs. Since 2021, this area has frequently experienced stimulated earthquakes, including over 20 in a day.
The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center continues monitoring these earthquakes.
Since January 1st, the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center has recorded about 300 earthquakes in Vietnam's territory and sea. Most of the earthquakes occurred in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province (formerly), now Quang Ngai province.
