The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center - Institute of Earth Sciences (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) has just issued information about the earthquake.
Accordingly, at approximately 4:42:48 PM ( Hanoi time) on October 7th, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.4 occurred at coordinates 22.936 degrees North latitude and 105.938 degrees East longitude, with a focal depth of approximately 16.5 km. The earthquake occurred in Can Yen commune, Cao Bang province. The natural disaster risk level is 0.
Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Director of the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center, said that this was a minor earthquake, occurring on the Cao Bang - Tien Yen fault zone (level 2), running northwest-southeast from China through Cao Bang to Quang Ninh.
In addition to the earthquake in Cao Bang, five earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.4 also occurred in Mang Ri and Mang But communes, Quang Ngai province. All earthquakes were classified as level 0 natural disaster risk.
Unlike the earthquake in Cao Bang, the earthquake in Quang Ngai is a triggered earthquake, closely related to the water storage activities of reservoirs. From 2021 to the present, this area has frequently experienced triggered earthquakes, with some days seeing more than 20 strikes.
The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center is continuing to monitor these earthquakes.
Since January 1st, the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center has recorded approximately 300 earthquakes in Vietnam's territory and waters. Almost all of these earthquakes occurred in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province (formerly), now Quang Ngai province.
