Completed expansion of National Highway 31

National Highway 31, a 39 km section through Luc Ngan lychee growing area in Bac Giang province, has been upgraded and expanded with more than VND860 billion in budget capital.

On the afternoon of October 9, the Ministry of Transport and the People's Committee of Bac Giang province held the inauguration ceremony of the project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 31 passing through Bac Giang province. The starting point of the route is the intersection with National Highway 1 in Bac Giang city, the end point is at the intersection with Provincial Road 290, Luc Ngan district.

The route was upgraded from level 4 to level 3 plain, the roadbed is 12 m wide with two lanes for motor vehicles, the design speed is 80 km/h. Sections through densely populated and urban areas are designed according to street standards, speed is 60 km/h.

There are 10 new bridges and 2 expanded bridges on the route. Drainage, protective works, and traffic safety systems are invested synchronously. The project started on August 4, 2022.

National Highway 31 is 158 km long, connecting Bac Giang with Lang Son, the section through Bac Giang is 99 km long. This is a vital route promoting trade and economic development in Lang Giang, Luc Nam, and Luc Ngan districts, and is the main road axis for transporting Luc Ngan lychees.

Mr. Le Anh Duong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Giang province, said that recently, the road has deteriorated, affecting the transportation of agricultural products, causing traffic insecurity.

Identifying the upgrading and renovation of National Highway 31 as an important project, Bac Giang province has proactively coordinated with the Vietnam Road Administration to urgently clear the land and provide materials for the contractor to implement according to plan. To date, the project has been completed, 3 months ahead of the contract.

The project also helps vehicles circulate smoothly on the inter-provincial route Bac Giang - Lang Son with National Highway 1A to Ban Chat border gate and connecting with Quang Ninh province, reducing congestion, gradually completing National Highway 31 as planned.
