The premiere of the opera "Princess Anio" is one of the most meaningful activities, held on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan (September 21, 1973 - September 21, 2023).
The play tells the love story between a Vietnamese princess and a Japanese merchant that is popular in both countries.
Araki Sotaro was a merchant ship in the early 17th century, he traveled from Nagasaki to Dang Trong (now Central Vietnam).
Receiving the trust of Lord Nguyen, Lord Nguyen Phuc Nguyen agreed to marry Princess Ngoc Hoa. Afterwards, Sorato took Princess Ngoc Hoa to Nagasaki. Here, she was affectionately called "Anio san" by the people of Nagasaki, and spent the rest of her life in Nagasaki.
Today, the procession welcoming Princess Anio continues to be reenacted in the "Goshuin Ship" scene, held every seven years at the "Nagasaki Kunchi" festival in Nagasaki.
The opera takes its motif from a true story in the history of exchange and friendship between Vietnam and Japan, describing the mutual respect between the two countries that has existed since ancient times.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan, this opera will be broadcast to the world with the aim of passing on this love story to future generations as a testament to the good diplomatic relations between the two countries.
