Should English language learners become translators and interpreters?

I am studying English Language, not sure whether to pursue Applied Linguistics or Translation - Interpretation after graduation.

I am very confused because I have to make a choice next year. Studying applied languages is very heavy, when I graduate I am not sure whether to go straight to work or do a master's degree.

Thousands of questions pop up in my head but no one gives me guidance or suggestions, I really hope everyone can advise me.
