The Ministry of Education and Training has just announced the results of the Vietnamese student delegation at the 2025 Mendeleev International Chemistry Olympiad.
Specifically, the 2 Gold Medals went to Tran Trung Kien (12th grade student, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi) and Nguyen Ngo Duc (12th grade student, Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, Nghe An province).
2 Silver Medals went to Dinh Trong An (grade 12, High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) and Tran Hoang Nam (grade 11, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students).
The Vietnamese student team competing this year was selected from the results of the regional and international Olympic team selection exam in 2025. In addition to the official team participating in the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), the University of Science (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) was assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training to preside over the training and organization of the delegation participating in the exam. Participation in the exam aims to expand opportunities for international academic exchange, foster capacity and create conditions for many excellent students to participate in large-scale and high-quality academic activities.
The 59th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad (IMChO) took place in Brazil. This is one of the most prestigious and challenging academic competitions in the field of Chemistry for high school students, often dubbed as “The most difficult Chemistry exam on the planet”.
In 2025, the exam will gather 192 candidates from 40 countries and territories, including countries with strongly developed chemistry education such as China, Russia, Korea, Japan...
The exam takes place in 3 rounds over 3 days. Rounds 1 and 2 are theoretical exams, while round 3 is practical. The exam time for each round is 5 hours. The organizing committee will award official prizes to 60% of the participating candidates, in the ratio of Gold - Silver - Bronze medals of 1 - 2 - 3.
Vietnam will participate in this intellectual playground from 2024. In last year's competition, the Vietnamese delegation won 1 Gold Medal, 5 Silver Medals and 4 Bronze Medals.
