Rise to get rich
Participating in the mission of supplying food and ammunition to the front line since 1972, after the country was liberated, former Youth Volunteer Phan Thi Xiem returned to her hometown of Cua Tung, Quang Tri province to build a life. Born and raised in a coastal area, and having spent nearly 10 years traveling around seaports and ports to trade seafood, she understands better than anyone how to create delicious fish sauce.
Taking advantage of the abundant resources from her homeland's sea, Ms. Xiem invested 700 million VND to build a standard production system. Her facility currently has 10 fish sauce tanks, built in an airy location with sunlight to ensure the fish sauce ripens quickly and is delicious.
Currently, Mrs. Xiem's fish sauce products are priced from 50,000 - 60,000 VND/liter. After overcoming the difficulties of the early days of starting a business, up to now, "Mrs. Xiem" brand fish sauce has reached customers in and outside the province. At the peak time, her facility buys about 20 - 30 tons of raw fish/year for production. "The longer the fish sauce is stored, the more special the aroma. My products always prioritize quality, so customers can rest assured to use them," said Mrs. Xiem.
From her fish sauce facility, Ms. Xiem has not only successfully developed her economy with an income of about 200 million VND/year, but also created regular jobs for other women's union members and former Youth Volunteers with difficult circumstances in the area. In addition, her fish sauce production facility has also become a "place" for learning and sharing experiences for many visiting delegations. In life, she is always ready to support the union organization and her teammates when facing difficulties.
Another example of the spirit of striving to become a good businessman is former Youth Volunteer Nguyen Van Thac, a son of Le Thuy. He had a heroic youth when he joined the Youth Volunteer force of the Dong Hoi Irrigation Corps in 1976, carrying out the task of building the Tram Dam project (former Quang Tri), then enlisted in the army.
Returning to his hometown, with the permission of the competent authorities, in 2004, he decided to choose Thuan Duc commune, Dong Hoi city, now Dong Son ward as the place to start a business and opened Tan Phuong Company Limited, specializing in sawing, cutting wood, producing high-class civil carpentry, supplying wood for making ships and boats for fishermen...
“In more than 20 years of operation, my company has faced many difficulties due to harsh weather and constant natural disasters. However, with the fortitude forged through years of facing bombs and bullets, I am not afraid of difficulties and hardships, always striving to build the company to grow,” Mr. Thac confided.
Currently, Tan Phuong Company Limited's annual revenue is about 2.4 billion VND/year, creating jobs for 10 workers, most of whom are children of former Youth Volunteers. In particular, this former Youth Volunteer always sets aside about 30 million VND/year to set up a charity fund to help people in difficult circumstances in the area; support funding for association activities and members in difficult circumstances, suffering from serious illnesses...
Affirm your mettle
Identifying the emulation movement "Former Youth Volunteers help each other to do good business, for the sake of comradeship" as one of the top tasks, in recent years, the Association of Former Youth Volunteers of Quang Tri province has developed a plan and launched a widespread movement among all cadres and members.

At the same time, propagate, mobilize, and encourage members to participate in training courses, transfer science and technology, exploit and promote the strengths of each production area to promote the process of restructuring crops and livestock. In the period of 2019 - 2024 alone, the whole province has more than 700 models of former Youth Volunteers and their families doing good business, for the sake of comradeship with hundreds of billions of VND in revenue, creating jobs for many workers, including children and grandchildren of former Youth Volunteers.
Many former Youth Volunteers are old but still enthusiastic about the association's work, not only good at production and business, but also actively witnessing to resolve policies and regimes for their comrades, collecting artifacts related to Youth Volunteers to propagate and educate their children and grandchildren, and the younger generation to understand and appreciate the contributions of the Youth Volunteers.
Chairman of the Association of Former Youth Volunteers of Quang Tri Province, Dang Phuc Due, affirmed: The secret to the success of former Youth Volunteers who won on the economic “front” is their initiative to rise up, not fear failure, and not wait or rely on others. These are the noble qualities of Youth Volunteers.
“The entire association determined that members who are still healthy and have the conditions should directly participate in production, business, and developing industries and services to increase family income; members with poor health should guide their children and grandchildren about knowledge and experience to develop the family economy, stabilize and improve their lives,” said Mr. Due.
With the spirit of "young volunteers, old models", former Quang Tri Youth Volunteers are continuing to inspire the next generation with the tradition of patriotism, learning and following Uncle Ho throughout their lives from the most ordinary things.
