INTERNATIONAL PRESS CONFERENCE ON THE RESULTS OF THE 9TH GLOBAL YOUNG PARLIAMENTARIANS MEETING: IPU DEEPLY IMPRESSED BY VIETNAM'S ORGANIZATIONAL WORK
A panoramic view of the international press conference on the results of the 9th Global Young Parliamentarians Conference, held immediately after the closing of the conference.
When asked about Vietnam's organization of the conference, the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Duarte Pacheco, used the word "perfect" to describe his assessment. The IPU President added that when the Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly proposed that Vietnam host the Global Young Parliamentarians Conference, the IPU readily agreed. This was partly due to the success of the 132nd IPU General Assembly, which Vietnam hosted in 2015. Vietnam had a perfect organizational record. Now, after three days of work within the framework of this Global Young Parliamentarians Conference, Vietnam continues to affirm its organizational capacity, thereby contributing to the success of the conference.
IPU Secretary-General Martin Chungong stated that the results achieved at the conference far exceeded the IPU's expectations. The conference set several records, including the number of delegates attending, with over 300 delegates from more than 65 countries. This was partly due to Vietnam being an attractive destination, as well as Vietnam's meticulous organization and attention to the substance of the program's content.

Commenting on the results achieved at the Conference, IPU President Duarte Pacheco said that while the results were very successful, they were only the first step. The greater challenge lies in implementing the agreements reached at the Conference, and in ensuring that parliamentarians from over 60 countries participating in the Conference strive to implement the consensuses reached in their respective countries. The IPU President also expressed confidence that young parliamentarians will soon realize the contents discussed, proposed, and agreed upon at the Conference.
According to IPU Secretary-General Martin Chungong, the outcome of this Conference is a continuation of the success of the 132nd IPU General Assembly in 2015, also held in Vietnam. With the same theme of the Sustainable Development Goals and the efforts of parliaments, but returning to Hanoi in 2023, the Conference's content added the aspect of digital transformation and innovation to promote the implementation of the SDGs in the context of difficulties in implementation in many countries, leading to the risk of many goals falling behind schedule.

The results achieved at the Conference are clearly reflected in the Conference Declaration, which focuses on concrete actions and solutions. Young parliamentarians called on their respective parliaments and young parliamentarians themselves to act together and implement the agreed-upon solutions. This is also based on the spirit of the 2015 Hanoi Declaration, which emphasizes "turning words into action." In this process, the IPU commits to its member parliaments, urging them to promote parliamentary activities that support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. At the same time, the IPU will monitor and urge the implementation of the recommendations made at this Conference.
Expressing strong agreement with the message repeatedly emphasized by the Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly, Vuong Dinh Hue, regarding the need for Vietnamese parliaments to maintain exchanges, cooperation, and promote the participation of young people in innovation, the IPU Secretary-General stated that, in his capacity, he will continue to utilize the existing IPU mechanism to empower young people to participate more in innovation and promote the implementation of the set agenda.
IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum President Dan Carden affirmed the important significance of the Conference.
On behalf of the delegates attending the Conference, the Chairman of the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum, Dan Carden, expressed his gratitude to the host country, Vietnam, for the warm, thoughtful, and friendly welcome; he was particularly impressed by the organization, the modern and vibrant venue chosen for the Conference, and the numerous promotional banners displayed throughout the venue.
Dan Carden, Chairman of the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum, said that the upcoming United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development Goals will take place in New York to review the progress of countries around the world in implementing issues such as climate change and poverty reduction. Therefore, the gathering of young parliamentarians in Hanoi to discuss this issue is of particular importance.
Delegates, reporters, and editors attended the press conference.
The IPU's Young Parliamentarians Forum was established with the mission of creating a connection between parliaments/national assemblies and young people, promoting the role of young parliamentarians. Recalling the message conveyed by the Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly, Vuong Dinh Hue, in his closing remarks at the Conference – to disseminate the results of this Conference to the United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development Goals – the Chairman of the Vietnamese Young Parliamentarians Group of the 15th term, Nguyen Anh Tuan, expressed his hope that the IPU would submit the Conference Declaration to the United Nations, reflecting the voice of young parliamentarians and youth on global issues.
