National online conference of Steering Committee 389: Strengthening the prevention of trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and smuggled goods

According to the report, in the first quarter of 2025, units and localities nationwide arrested and handled over 30,600 violations. Of which, the authorities detected and arrested over 6,750 cases of trading and transporting prohibited and smuggled goods; over 22,700 cases of trade fraud and tax fraud; 1,113 cases of counterfeit goods and intellectual property violations; collected over VND 4,616 billion for the state budget (an increase of 59.45% over the same period); prosecuted 1,328 cases and 2,046 subjects.

Notably, many new and sophisticated methods and tricks have been discovered and handled, such as: Taking advantage of simple procedures for transit goods, border gate transfers, tax exemption for temporarily imported and re-exported goods, bonded warehouses, export processing..., subjects mix infringing goods with officially imported goods to smuggle and infiltrate into the Vietnamese market; taking advantage of e-commerce platforms to advertise and trade in counterfeit goods of unknown origin: fake products are milk, functional foods, modern medicines...

Concluding the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son emphasized: The global trade situation is complicated, especially when the US imposes tariffs on imported goods from many countries. This is a factor that can easily be exploited to increase smuggling activities, trade fraud, and the transportation of counterfeit goods and goods counterfeiting Vietnamese origin for export to third countries.

Violators are increasingly using more sophisticated methods and tricks through e-commerce, social networks and express delivery, causing difficulties for authorities.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested the Steering Committee 389 of ministries, branches and localities to review and improve their organizations and strictly implement the direction of the National Steering Committee 389. At the same time, develop plans and solutions suitable to the actual situation of the localities; focus on fighting and effectively preventing acts of smuggling, trade fraud, illegal transportation of drugs, gold, foreign currency and goods counterfeiting Vietnamese origin.
