The accident happened on the afternoon of May 15, when the girl was on her way to school and returned home because she forgot something. While bending down to go through the automatic rolling door, due to a broken safety sensor system, the door did not automatically stop when encountering an obstacle, causing the child to be trapped by the neck for about 5-7 minutes.

The accident caused the child to turn purple and stop breathing. Fortunately, people nearby discovered it in time, quickly performed CPR on the spot and took the child to the provincial hospital for emergency treatment. There, the child experienced convulsions and severe circulatory failure. Immediately, the child was intubated and transferred to the National Children's Hospital.

Master, Doctor Trinh Thi Phong, Department of Emergency and Anti-Poison, National Children's Hospital said, about 4 hours after the accident, the child was transferred in critical condition with symptoms of cardiac arrest and pulmonary edema.

The emergency team immediately implemented emergency resuscitation measures, performed cardiac arrest, and placed a central venous catheter to maintain hemodynamics. After active resuscitation and paraclinical tests, the child was transferred to the Department of Surgical Intensive Care for continued resuscitation and close monitoring.

Dr. Nguyen Dung Tien, Department of Intensive Care Surgery, National Children's Hospital, said that the patient was diagnosed with cervical spine injury after circulatory arrest. Doctors have implemented life support measures, including mechanical ventilation, cardiac and vasopressor drugs, and active hypothermia therapy - maintaining body temperature at 34 degrees Celsius for many hours to protect the brain, control intracranial pressure, and stabilize internal disorders, thereby preventing secondary complications.

In parallel with the treatment process, Cardiologists and Neurologists closely coordinated with the doctors of the Department of Intensive Care Surgery to hold interdisciplinary consultations, and at the same time performed in-depth investigations to determine potential causes that may affect the child's health, thereby providing appropriate and timely intervention.

Thanks to intensive care, after more than 5 days of treatment, the child's health condition improved significantly, he was able to get off the ventilator, breathe on his own, was alert, had good awareness, and stable cardiovascular and hemodynamic indicators.

According to doctors, the convenience of automatic rolling doors poses many potential risks of accidents, especially for children - vulnerable subjects without proper supervision and prevention.

At the National Children's Hospital, in recent years, there have been a number of cases of children having accidents due to rolling doors and automatic sliding gates, including serious cases such as being trapped in the neck, abdomen, arms, legs, etc., which greatly affect their health and even threaten their lives. In the face of this situation, doctors recommend that parents raise awareness of accident prevention for children, especially during the summer holidays.

To ensure the safety of children when using rolling doors and automatic sliding gates, families should note: Prioritize choosing products from reputable brands, with integrated safety sensors to help stop or send signals when encountering obstacles; install additional smart devices to support warnings and automatically turn off when detecting unsafe risks.

When operating the door, adults need to carefully observe the surrounding area, do not take your eyes off children to avoid unexpected incidents. At the same time, families need to instruct children not to climb, not to play near the rolling door area and avoid standing on unstable objects when there is no adult supervision.
