Workshop on Evaluating the Development Potential of Hybrid Gaur Herds at Phuoc Binh National Park

On the morning of November 28, the Department of Science and Technology (S&T) coordinated with Phuoc Binh National Park to organize a scientific workshop with the theme "Assessing the development potential of the hybrid gaur herd at Phuoc Binh National Park and proposing a plan to manage and care for the hybrid herd in the period up to the end of 2025 and after 2025". Attending the workshop were experts, scientists; leaders of relevant departments and branches.

From 2012 to present, the Department of Science and Technology of Ninh Thuan province has coordinated with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Department of Science and Technology of Lam Dong province, and the Department of Science and Technology of Khanh Hoa province to implement 3 provincial and ministerial level projects, including: "Research on genetic identification and evaluation of the development potential of F1 hybrid cattle between gaur and domestic cattle in the forest area bordering Ninh Thuan and Lam Dong provinces"; "Exploiting and developing rare cattle genetic resources in the forest area bordering the 3 provinces of Ninh Thuan - Lam Dong - Khanh Hoa"; "Conservation and sustainable use of F1 hybrid gaur genetic resources between domestic cows and male gaur in the period of 2021 - 2025".

Delegates visit the gaur herd breeding area at Phuoc Binh National Park.

Up to now, the basic topics have implemented the contents according to the approved description and are continuing to monitor the reproductive ability according to crossbreeding between generations of hybrid bulls, the growth and development ability of the 3rd generation calves and the care, health monitoring, disease prevention and treatment of the hybrid bull herd. Currently, the total herd has 9 F1 hybrid bulls, 1 F2 hybrid bull and 1 F3 hybrid bull.

Experts and scientists discussed and proposed plans for caring for and managing crossbred cattle in the coming time.
