Scientific seminar on famous general Vu Chi Thang and Tu Vu Communal House relic

(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On the morning of July 2, the Le Chan District Historical Science Association coordinated with Hang Kenh Ward to organize a scientific seminar on the famous general Vu Chi Thang and the Tu Vu Communal House Relic. Attending the event were comrade Pham Viet Anh, Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee.

Previously, in May 2023, a working group from the Department of Culture and Sports and the Department of Culture and Information of Le Chan district conducted a field survey at the Tu Vu Communal House Historical Relic. Through the survey, the working group concluded that Tu Vu Communal House in Hang Kenh ward met the criteria for the proposed classification of a historical and cultural relic under the city's management authority in 2023.

Tu Vu Communal House is the place to worship the Commander of the Imperial Capital, who was also the Commander of the Imperial Guards and participated in the royal court - Vu Chi Thang, the village's tutelary god. Vu Chi Thang, born in 1253 during the reign of King Tran Thai Tong, was from Nam village, Hang Kenh commune, Dong Khe canton, An Hai district, Dong region (now Hang Kenh ward, Le Chan district, Hai Phong city). In the 4th year of Thieu Bao (1282), he was a general with many contributions in the resistance war against the Yuan-Mongol army for the 2nd time (1282) and the 3rd time (1284-1285) during the reign of King Hung Dao Tran Quoc Tuan.

When hearing the news that the Yuan invaders were invading our country, Hung Dao Dai Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan issued a proclamation to recruit talented people, plotting to fight the enemy and save the country. He felt that it was his duty as a man to protect the country and the country, so he immediately joined the army, offered his strategy to fight the enemy and was trusted by Hung Dao Vuong, placed in the left and right ranks to discuss military affairs. Hung Dao Dai Vuong requested the King to grant him a high position as Commander.

During the resistance war against the Yuan army in the 6th year of Thieu Bao (1284 - 1285), he gave a plan to stop the enemy on Gia River to force O-Ma-Nhi to follow Da Bac River into our trap on Bach Dang River...

After defeating the Yuan-Mongol invaders and returning the country to peace, he used the excuse of old age and poor health to ask the court to let him return to his homeland to enjoy the countryside. Returning to live a simple life in the countryside, he was very concerned about the lives of the villagers; often gathering exiles, helping them with money and ways to make a living, organizing land reclamation, reclaiming the sea, expanding land and fields so that people could settle down and make a living. The population of Hang Kenh became more and more crowded and prosperous.

During the reign of King Tran Minh Tong, on January 18, 1325, Mr. Vu Chi Thang passed away at the age of 72. Everyone in the village respected and admired his talent and virtue, so they honored him as Thanh Hoang, established Nhan Tho Temple and worshiped him - now Tu Vu Temple.

At the workshop, members of the Le Chan District Historical Science Association and delegates discussed and clarified the role and historical significance of the famous general Vu Chi Thang and the Tu Vu Communal House. They affirmed the great contributions of the famous general Vu Chi Thang to the people; expressed opinions on re-determining the current name of the Tu Vu Communal House; the great significance of the cultural heritage in Hang Kenh Ward; the contents on the roof of the Communal House... At the same time, they requested the district and the city to pay attention to providing specific instructions on the tail of the Communal House roof that is not within the surrounding wall, however, there is no dispute and no encroachment on residential land...
