More than 3,000 Lao people came to Dien Bien province for medical examination and treatment.

SKĐS - The Department of Health of Dien Bien province has just signed a cooperation agreement with the Department of Health of 3 neighboring provinces of Laos: Phongsaly, Oudomxay and Luang Prabang. Over the past years, thanks to the help and support of Dien Bien health, medical staff of the 3 neighboring provinces have been trained and transferred techniques to improve their professional qualifications.

The Department of Health of Dien Bien province and the Department of Health of the three provinces of Phongsaly, Oudomxay and Luang Prabang (Northern Laos) have coordinated and effectively implemented epidemic prevention work in the border communes. The situation of infectious diseases in the border area is stable, no epidemics have occurred. In the period of 2022 - 2025, 3,186 people from the three provinces of Northern Laos came to Dien Bien for medical examination and treatment, of which 1,403 patients were inpatients.

Regarding staff training, Dien Bien Provincial Health Department has recruited 73 new students (long-term training) and graduated 172 students for 3 provinces in Northern Laos, with a total training cost of over 7.9 billion VND. Along with that, short-term training was provided for 10 staff from Phongsaly Provincial Health Department and Oudomxay Provincial Health Department in emergency medicine, general internal medicine, general surgery, obstetrics...

Dien Bien Provincial Department of Health has presented the district hospital of Luang Prabang province with 32 common medicines along with medical equipment such as: nebulizer, electronic blood pressure monitor, 2-bottle suction machine, endotracheal intubation set with a total value of over 450 million VND.

According to the Department of Health of Dien Bien province, in the period of 2026 - 2028, medical cooperation with 3 provinces of Laos will focus on strengthening cooperation in specialized fields: disease prevention, medical examination and treatment, staff training and pharmaceutical work.

Notably, Dien Bien health care continues to examine and treat Lao patients at the province's medical facilities and patients enjoy the same benefits as Dien Bien residents. Dien Bien Provincial Health Department continues to send experts and medical examination and treatment teams to support the three northern Lao provinces, helping the Department of Health of the northern Lao provinces train professional and technical staff and use medical equipment.

Mr. Pham Giang Nam, Director of the Department of Health of Dien Bien province affirmed: "The memorandum of understanding on medical cooperation has opened up prospects for deeper and broader cooperation, for the health and interests of people on both sides of the border. At the same time, it contributes to fostering the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, Laos and Vietnam".

Agreeing on the contents, the Department of Health of Dien Bien province signed a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Health of 3 provinces: Phongsaly, Oudomxay, Luang Prabang on health cooperation in the coming period.
