Enhancing the safety and quality of patient care in Vietnam

Speaking at the signing ceremony with Becton Dickinson Holdings PTE LTD (BD) – a global medical technology group with over 125 years of experience, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Giap, Deputy Director of Bach Mai Hospital, emphasized the importance of this cooperation in the context of the hospital's strong development.

"With more than 4,500 staff and a total of 4,600 beds after the second facility comes into operation, we receive a huge number of patients, from 8,000 to 10,000 outpatients and care for about 4,000 inpatients every day. Among them, many cases have difficulty accessing blood vessels" - Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Giap shared.

Deputy Director Vu Van Giap affirmed that with BD's high-quality materials and equipment and new techniques, patients will benefit from "high technology with safety, efficiency and high quality of care, to avoid local infection and sepsis".

Mr. Liang Lu, Vice President of BD Asia Region, General Manager of BD Southeast Asia, expressed: This is a proud and meaningful moment, marking our shared commitment to promoting clinical excellence, patient safety and continuing medical education, especially in the important area of intravenous line management.

The collaboration between Bach Mai Hospital and its partners focuses on three strategic pillars to create systemic and lasting changes.

Firstly, improve the quality, efficiency and safety of vascular therapy. Specifically, the program aims to standardize safe and effective vascular therapy, establish and operate a vascular access team, and organize training for medical staff according to international standards.

At the same time, cooperate in developing new technical services to ensure access and long-term sustainability of the application of advanced and safe vascular therapy solutions.

Second, build a vascular access simulation room managed by the Institute of Training and Research of Bach Mai Hospital.

"This will become a key center for practical training and research in the field of vascular therapy. At the same time, this is also a great opportunity for more than 10,000 medical staff from provincial and local hospitals to come to Bach Mai Hospital every year to practice and learn advanced vascular access techniques" - said a representative of Bach Mai Hospital.

Third, from this cooperation, Bach Mai Hospital will implement the PRIME Program (Prevention of Infection Risks and Medication Errors in Intravenous Therapy) to improve the quality of care and patient safety, standardize vascular therapy practices according to international standards; and strengthen the capacity of the vascular access team.

From scientific research to nationwide replication

A key highlight of the partnership vision is the nationwide scaling-up of safe intravenous solutions.

Deputy Director of Bach Mai Hospital Vu Van Giap made a strategic proposal on research in the direction that, in addition to specialized training activities, the hospital especially emphasizes the role of building scientific evidence and collecting actual clinical data.

“This is the foundation to provide a solid basis to convince the Ministry of Health and colleagues nationwide about the safety, efficacy, and especially the cost-effectiveness analysis of this advanced vascular approach.

This is the most academic and scientific approach to ensure the ability to successfully expand and replicate the program of establishing intravenous lines to provincial and local medical centers, a goal that Bach Mai Hospital wishes to cooperate with BD" - Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Giap said.

Mr. Liang Lu also expressed his willingness to explore further collaboration opportunities in generating evidence from clinical practice and future research.
