According to some sources, Coach Marco Pezzaiuoli is the candidate who has just applied to lead the Vietnam national team. Mr. Marco Pezzaiuoli was born in 1968, German nationality. Although his playing career was not too outstanding, on the coaching bench, he is highly appreciated for his expertise in the Bundesliga (German National Football Championship).

This coach had been associated with Karlsruher SC club since the first years of his coaching career. After that, he had the opportunity to work in Karlsruher's first team. In 2002, coach Marco Pezzaiuoli suddenly moved to work in Korea for Suwon Samsung Bluewings and became assistant to coach Cha Bum Kun.

Marco Pezzaiuoli focused on youth development, coaching the German U15 to U18 teams. In 2009, he helped the German U17 team win the European Championship. He has contributed to the development of many stars for German football such as Marc Andre ter Stegen, Bernd Leno, Kevin Volland and Mario Gotze…

The German strategist also worked as a youth coach at Asian clubs such as Guangzhou Evergrande (China), Cerezo Osaka (Japan), Bengaluru (India)... Most recently, he took on the position of Technical Director of the Turkish club Galatasaray.

Notably, in his career, in 2010, Mr. Marco worked as an assistant to former MU head coach - Ralf Rangnick, at Hoffenheim Club. After Ralf Rangnick moved to Schalke 04, Marco Pezzaiuoli was appointed as interim coach by Hoffenheim for the 2010-2011 season.

Despite the emergence of many candidates, VFF has remained silent so far. A VFF leader confirmed that the search for a head coach is ongoing and official information will only be announced to the media after the two sides reach an agreement to sign a contract.

It is known that the majority of VFF Executive Committee members support the option of hiring a coach from Japan or Korea, but do not rule out the possibility of surprises with candidates from Europe. In case of finding a suitable person, VFF can completely sign a contract before June for the new head coach to debut in the two matches of the Vietnam team against the Philippines and Iraq in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia.
