Hue: Thousands of lowland students stay home from school to proactively respond to storm No. 12

On the morning of October 22, due to the influence of high tides and water regulation from hydroelectric and irrigation reservoirs, many low-lying areas of Hue city such as Dan Dien, Hoa Chau, Quang Dien... were partially flooded. In Quang Dien commune, 1,291 students from Xuan Duong and Quang Phuoc kindergartens, Quang Phuoc 2 and Quang An 2 primary schools, and Nguyen Huu Dat secondary schools are temporarily absent from school. In Hoa Chau commune, this morning, 10 schools (3 kindergartens, 5 primary schools, 2 secondary schools) allowed 2,550 students to stay home due to rising water levels. Dan Dien commune said it has also allowed students to stay home from school and is currently compiling data.

On the evening of October 21, the Department of Education and Training of Hue City issued a document reminding educational institutions to strengthen measures to protect assets, teaching equipment, and records to proactively respond to storm No. 12. The Department said that depending on the weather and the actual situation in each locality, the agency will issue separate notices to guide schools to let students stay home or continue to go to class.

On the afternoon of October 21, before the complicated developments of storm No. 12 (international name Fengshen), Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Pham Duc Tien inspected the response work in key areas at risk of flooding and landslides such as Vinh Loc, Phu Loc, Hai Duong , and Phu Vinh.

The Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee requested localities to urgently review and evacuate people in dangerous areas, fully prepare vehicles and necessities, implement the "four on-the-spot" motto, and at the same time increase propaganda and put up warning signs to prevent people from going to dangerous areas.

The city's armed forces were assigned to mobilize troops to help people reinforce their houses, raise their property, and safely anchor boats, determined not to let people stay on boats when the storm hits.

According to records on October 21, the wind speed in the coastal area of ​​Hue reached level 5, gusting to level 6, with insignificant rain. Hydroelectric and irrigation reservoirs took advantage of the situation to regulate the water level below flood level, but in the afternoon had to adjust the discharge flow to limit flooding in the downstream area.
