Mai Chau district on the journey of innovation

Chieng Chau Brocade Weaving Cooperative, Chieng Chau Commune (Mai Chau) preserves and promotes traditional cultural values.

In September 1956, according to Decree No. 1053/TTg, Mai Da district was divided into 2 districts: Mai Chau and Da Bac. When it was first established, Mai Chau district had 5 communes, with a population of about 15,226 people, mainly ethnic minorities. In 1957, the whole district reclaimed 50.2 hectares, restored 46.7 hectares of cultivated and cultivated areas, reaching 1,358.68 hectares, an increase of 96.7 hectares compared to 1956. Average food per capita reached nearly 300 kg. These results showed the efforts to overcome difficulties and rise up of cadres, party members and people in the first year of building the new district, creating a foundation for development in the following years.

During the resistance war against the US to save the country, with the slogan "Not a pound of rice is missing, not a soldier is missing", the district organized 24 recruitment rounds, adding 843 soldiers to the army. Mai Chau people contributed 39,049 kg of rice, 21,172 kg of cassava, 8,331 kg of corn to the State..., contributing to the glorious history of the nation. The district was honored to be awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces. The communes of Tong Dau and Chieng Chau were also awarded this noble title.

Under the leadership of the Party Committee, Mai Chau district has achieved many victories in the revolutionary stages. After the country's reunification, Mai Chau entered a period of construction and development. In the period 2000 - 2005, the district's economy grew rapidly in many areas. In agriculture, the structure of crops and livestock was transformed. The district focused on investing in infrastructure for tourism; tourist attractions were gradually formed, attracting visitors. By 2005, trade, services and tourism accounted for 8.77% of the total production value, an increase of 3.99% compared to 2000.

Comrade Ha Trong Luu, Secretary of the Chieng Chau Commune Party Committee, said: In 2015, the commune met the new rural standards; in 2021, it met the advanced new rural standards and is striving to meet the model new rural standards. In 2024, the commune will meet and exceed 16/17 targets set by the Commune Party Committee's resolution. Some outstanding targets include: average income per capita reaching 67 million VND, the poverty rate reduced to 1.52%...

The Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Mai Chau district are making steady steps on the journey of innovation and integration. The economic structure of the district has shifted positively, the service - tourism sector has increased sharply. In 2024, the district will achieve and exceed 18/20 targets of the resolution. The average income per capita will reach over 57 million VND; the poverty rate will decrease to 13.36%. Infrastructure has developed, the urbanization rate will reach over 30%. Inter-commune roads are basically asphalted, inter-village roads are concreted. 100% of households have access to the national grid, 98.8% of households have access to clean water; the rate of people participating in health insurance will reach 95.07%. The district welcomes about 770,000 tourists, with total revenue reaching over 927 billion VND. The district has 8/15 communes meeting new rural standards, of which 2 communes meet advanced new rural standards.

Comrade Ha Cong Nghi, Standing Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, said: Mai Chau is affirming its position as a potential destination, ready to enter a period of strong development. The district continues to focus on economic development solutions, taking tourism - services as the foundation, promoting other areas.

Mai Chau has made great strides after 50 years of liberation, but there are still difficulties and challenges. Exploiting the potential of land, landscape, cultural identity..., the Party Committee, government and people of Mai Chau district will continue to promote traditions, building the homeland to be more and more prosperous and civilized.
