Mr. Le Van Tiet, along with Mr. Mai Van Hoa, are the greatest players in the history of Vietnamese table tennis. These two athletes were once in the top 10 in the world . Mr. Le Van Tiet was ranked 6th in the world in 1959.
Mr. Le Van Tiet and Mr. Mai Van Hoa helped Vietnam's table tennis team win the Gold Medal (HCV) for the men's team at the 1958 Asian Games . Mr. Mai Van Hoa was once known as the "Great Wall", and Mr. Le Van Tiet was known as the "wonder of world table tennis".
On the way to the gold medal that year, Mr. Le Van Tiet defeated the world's number one tennis player at that time, Toshiaki Tanaka (Japanese).
After retiring from his playing career, Mr. Le Van Tiet switched to coaching. He was the coach of the Tan Binh District (HCMC) table tennis team.
For the past ten years, despite his advanced age, Mr. Le Van Tiet still plays table tennis every day. He still pursues his passion, while inspiring the young generation of Vietnamese table tennis.
According to information from Mr. Le Van Tiet's family, he passed away on the morning of June 2 due to old age. The man known as the "wonder of table tennis" of Vietnam was 86 years old.
