The iOS 19 update will bring the biggest design changes users have seen in over a decade.

Apple is also planning similar updates for the Mac and iPad, with the goal of making its platforms “more consistent.”

iOS 19 - the biggest revolution since iOS 7

The report suggests that the changes will “go beyond a new design language and cosmetic tweaks.” For the iPhone, iOS 19 is said to be “the biggest revolution since iOS 7” in 2013.

To reiterate, iOS 7 marked a complete overhaul of the iPhone's software interface, laying the groundwork for Apple's next design era.

As for the Mac, Bloomberg says macOS 16 will be “the most significant upgrade to the Mac” since macOS Big Sur was released in 2020. macOS Big Sur brought major design changes to the Dock, Notification Center, Messages , and more.

In this update, Apple will update “the style of icons, menus, apps, windows, and system buttons.”

The new design will be partly inspired by visionOS, with the goal of making the software interface more consistent across Apple platforms. Apple also plans to simplify the way users navigate and control their devices.

There are still not many details about the specific design changes, new features, and other improvements coming to iOS 19. A previous leak suggested that iOS 19 will drastically overhaul the Camera app.

Apple will announce iOS 19 at WWDC in June, followed by several months of beta testing before its official release in September alongside the iPhone 17 series.

Until iOS 19 is released, iPhone users are currently looking forward to the iOS 18.4 update, which could be released in April, with some valuable AI features: Priority Notifications ; Image Playground ...

The iOS 19 news comes just two days after Apple indefinitely delayed updates to Siri’s Apple Intelligence. A major design overhaul to the iPhone operating system would be a great way to distract from the delay of Apple’s Intelligence features.

At the moment, the Bloomberg report doesn't provide enough details to confirm that iOS 19 is indeed the biggest update since iOS 7. But if this turns out to be true, 2025 will be an exciting year for iPhone users.
