CCN channel reported that at least 100 people were killed and more than 150 injured in a fire that broke out at a wedding party in Hamdaniya district of Nineveh province, northeastern Iraq.
Nineveh Governor Najm Al-Jubouri said the injured had been taken to hospital and that the death toll was not yet final. According to the Iraqi Civil Defense Agency, fireworks and candles ignited flammable materials used in the wedding, causing the fire. The wedding hall was covered with flammable ecobond panels, which violated fire safety guidelines and requirements.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani has directed the authorities to support those affected by the fire, requesting the mobilization of all forces to help the victims. The Iraqi government has also announced 3 days of national mourning to honor the victims.
