"Mr. Hossein Akbari, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus, and his family were not harmed in the Israeli attack," Iran's Nour News Agency wrote, according to AFP.
Syria's official news agency SANA reported "an Israeli attack targeting the Iranian consulate building in the Mazzeh area of Damascus". Earlier, SANA reported "our air defense systems attacked enemy targets in the Damascus area".
Two AFP reporters at the scene confirmed that the building next to the Iranian embassy had been razed, in an upscale residential area of Damascus.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said "Israeli missiles... destroyed a building next to the Iranian embassy... in Damascus, killing six people."
In addition, a Lebanese security source told Reuters that a senior commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Mohammad Reza Zahedi, was killed in the attack.

Reuters reporters at the scene in Mazzeh saw smoke rising from the rubble of a flattened building and ambulances parked outside.
When asked about the attack, an Israeli military spokesman said: "We do not comment on foreign media reports."
The latest attack comes after the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that an Israeli airstrike on Syria's Aleppo province on March 29 killed 53 people, including 38 Syrian soldiers and seven members of the Iran-backed Hezbollah force.
