On April 16 and 17, Vietnam Airlines coordinated with the Department of Administrative Police for Social Order (C06 - Ministry of Public Security ) and Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) to successfully test the biometric check-in process at Noi Bai Airport Terminal 1 and Tan Son Nhat Airport Terminal 3.
This is the first time domestic passengers in Vietnam can complete all flight procedures from buying tickets, checking in, going through security and boarding the plane with just one facial scan, without having to present documents such as ID cards or citizen identification cards.
According to the airline representative, the system has fully met the requirements for aviation safety and security and is ready for mass application after being approved by the authorities.
The "Airline Services" feature on the VNeID application supports users with level 2 identification accounts to perform steps from buying tickets to boarding the plane without having to carry documents. Authentication is done by facial recognition, compared with national identification data.
According to Vietnam Airlines, this process helps shorten check-in time and reduce congestion at the airport, especially during peak periods. Previously, passengers had to present documents for manual verification at many points along the journey.
The use of biometrics in aviation is not new in the world , but this is the first time it has been applied in Vietnam for domestic flights. In the first phase, this form will be piloted on some routes, before expanding to the entire domestic network.
The new process still complies with regulations on security, safety and personal data protection, as required by the Ministry of Public Security and the Civil Aviation Authority.
