On the morning of January 2, at An My village field (Cam Chau Ward, Hoi An City), Hoi An City People's Committee organized the Cam Chau Field Festival 2024.

The festival takes place from 6:30 to 11:30 with many activities such as: plowing with buffalo, planting rice, bailing water with a double bucket, catching fish in the field...; attracting hundreds of local farmers, including many international tourist groups traveling in Hoi An ancient town to participate.

Western tourists enjoy the experience of planting rice

In particular, the experience of being a farmer has attracted dozens of foreign tourists to participate. Many Western tourists wore boots, raincoats, and conical hats to wade into the fields, "transforming" into real farmers to plant rice.

Melania’s family (from Spain) volunteered first to go to the rice fields. Melania and her three children were divided into two groups, working together to bail water into the fields with a bucket, then wading into the ditch to bail water with a bucket. Then, the four of them, along with local farmers, planted young green rice seedlings into the fields (which had been flooded with water).

After about 15 minutes of hard work planting rice, Mrs. Melania took a few minutes to rest and look at the rows of young rice seedlings that she had just planted in the field.

"Participating in this activity is an interesting experience for my family. When I return home, I will tell my friends about the wonderful New Year's trip to Vietnam. My friends and I will definitely come back here to have more interesting experiences. I love the people and country of Vietnam," Mrs. Melania shared.

Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh, Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee, said that the festival of going to the fields is an indispensable traditional ritual in the life of farmers. In Hoi An, the Cam Chau Festival of going to the fields aims to express the gratitude of the people to the gods who have blessed the bumper crops; pray for the gods to bless the villagers with a good harvest, prosperity, and happiness for every family; and is an opportunity for farmers to interact and exchange production experiences, thereby connecting more closely together in life.

In addition, the festival also contributes to preserving and promoting the intangible cultural values of the traditional rice farming profession; encouraging and motivating farmers to raise awareness of preserving the beauty of traditional professions and promoting the culture of the nation.

According to Mr. Lanh, coming to the rice field festival, tourists will surely have memorable experiences during their sightseeing and traveling journey in Hoi An.
