On June 28, the Writers Association Publishing House and Doctor of Aesthetics Nguyen The Hung launched the book “The Hung Memories” - a special “stele” depicting 56 portraits of talented people of the country who were also close friends of the author.

From artists who contributed to the appearance of Vietnamese literature and art in the 20th century, to scientists with silent but meaningful contributions, or businessmen with outstanding vision and courage.

Each portrait is a separate story, a separate fate, but they all converge at the same point: Talent and dedication to the country.

The book is a collection of stories containing the author’s deep feelings and reflections on each character. It is a combination of the objective perspective of the memoirist and the personal feelings of a friend, a companion. This helps the portraits become vivid, close and touching.

In his preface, author The Hung compared the book to a "form of stele" - expressing the desire to preserve the memories and values of talented people for posterity.

“I poured my heart and soul into this stele for more than 400 days and nights to carve 56 portraits of talented people of the country in many fields. They are the assets of the nation. So that future generations can understand the talent, life, fate, pain, and hidden corners of these great talents,” the author shared.

They are artists: Van Cao, Nguyen Dinh Thi, Hoang Cam, Phan Huynh Dieu, Nguyen Tuan, Trinh Cong Son, Nguyen Gia Tri, Bui Xuan Phai, Quang Dung, Xuan Dieu, Luu Quang Vu, Xuan Quynh... and close friends of Dr. The Hung: Musician Tran Tien, poet Nguyen Duy, historian Duong Trung Quoc, writer-Labor Hero Minh Chuyen, "cowboy" musician Nguyen Cuong and journalist Nguyen The Khoa.

The book also collects 800 valuable documentary photos that many of the Literature Museum do not have.

Talking about his passion for this work, Dr. Nguyen The Hung confided: “Words are the pearls of the brain. I used those pearls to attach 56 portraits of 'strange people', rare people in the world, to a corner of the historical picture. This is a true memoir written about real memories, real stories, not fictional like short stories, accompanied by a huge archive of documents: nearly 800 precious photos and autographs that I have accumulated and preserved for more than half a century.”

For the author, this publication is a respect and love for talented people, most of whom have passed away.

Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association, assessed Dr. The Hung as an example of dedication to passion for art.

“The Hung chose poetry when poetry came to him. He chose music when music came to him. He chose painting when painting came to him. He chose criticism when criticism came to him, like a tree spreading out in four directions to receive all the wind, dust, sun, rain, heat and cold... I observed him and saw him embarking on the path of creation with great emotions and a long-lasting passion,” poet Nguyen Quang Thieu commented./.
