Opening of the 2025 National Chess and Go Cup Championship in Phu Tho

On August 13, at Vinh Phuc Sports Gymnasium, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Tho province coordinated with the Vietnam Chess Federation to organize the opening ceremony of the 2025 National Chess and Go Cup Championship.

The 2025 National Chess and Go Cup Championship brings together 23 delegations of athletes from provinces and cities nationwide with over 500 athletes competing in age groups from 6 to 18. Athletes compete in individual men's and women's matches and in men's and women's pairs in age groups 11, 16, and 20 in 3 categories: Rapid Chess, Blitz Chess, and Super Blitz Chess.

The tournament is a playground for young players to demonstrate their skills, develop and improve their level of Chess and Go. This is also an opportunity for provinces and cities to evaluate the training and education of Chess and Go, discover and add outstanding athletes to the national team to participate in international tournaments in the coming time.

Mr. Dao Tien Cuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Tho province, said that Chess and Go are intellectual sports with a long history and special cultural values. Not only are they intellectual sports, they are also symbols of perseverance, bravery and strategic thinking - qualities that are very necessary in modern society. In recent years, Vietnamese intellectual sports have made many remarkable developments, increasingly affirming their position in the regional and international arenas. The Chess and Go movements have spread throughout the country, becoming a healthy and beneficial playground for many generations, especially young people.

Mr. Dao Tien Cuong emphasized that the organization of the tournament in Phu Tho province is meaningful to the development of local sports. Through the tournament, the image of Phu Tho - a sacred land, friendly, gentle and hospitable people is introduced and promoted to domestic and international friends. This is also an opportunity to promote linkages, cooperation in tourism development, sports and cultural exchange between localities.

The tournament runs until August 17.
