The 6th Conference of Industry and Trade of 05 Central Cities - 2023 hosted by the Department of Industry and Trade of Hanoi City, with the theme: "International integration promotes growth in import and export, industry and trade, services" for the period 2023 - 2025.
The conference aims to exchange and discuss new issues arising from development needs and state management practices, and reach consensus on viewpoints to propose recommendations to the Government and central ministries and branches to remove difficulties and provide support mechanisms to facilitate the 5 cities to promote their advantages; at the same time, build and shape connections and cooperation to develop the industry and trade sector between localities in the future. Seek guidance from the Ministry of Industry and Trade on implementing central mechanisms and policies to localities; propose mechanisms for coordinating the implementation of programs, projects and plans between localities; at the same time, contact, listen and remove difficulties and obstacles in local management and operation.
Organize to connect businesses in 5 cities to participate in the supply chain of FDI enterprises and large global enterprises; coordinate to support businesses, especially small and medium enterprises, to recover and develop production; build a supply chain of goods to connect production with the market, prioritizing the development of supply chains of agricultural and food products. Coordinate, exchange experiences, replicate good practices in implementation, take advantage of opportunities from FTAs to promote growth in import and export, trade and services.

According to information at the Conference, in the first 9 months of 2023, 5 centrally-run cities achieved positive achievements in industrial production, trade and import-export.
Regarding industrial production: Strictly implementing the direction of the Central and local governments, the Department of Industry and Trade of the Cities has performed well the advisory function, proactively and creatively, proposed many timely and effective solutions to develop the socio-economy , focusing on curbing inflation, stabilizing the macro-economy, ensuring social security such as: Strengthening deep and wide propaganda and effectively implementing the campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods"; Maintaining the survey work, grasping the difficulties and obstacles of enterprises, proposing solutions to remove them. The results of industrial production activities of the 5 Cities maintained the growth rate (although the growth was lower than the same period) and higher than the general growth rate of the whole country. Specifically, the index of industrial production (IIP): Can Tho City increased by 3.27%, Hanoi City increased by 2.4%, Hai Phong City increased by 11.55%, City. Ho Chi Minh City increased by 2.8%, only Da Nang City had an IIP index decrease of 1.99%. (The national IIP index decreased by 0.4%).
Regarding trade: Trade activities in the 5 cities in the first 8 months of 2023 have maintained a fairly good growth rate. In the context of high inflation, people's spending activities have also been tightened. With the attention of the leaders of the cities through support policy mechanisms, and the efforts of businesses, the trade infrastructure has increasingly developed in both scale and quality. Trade promotion, promotion and discount programs take place regularly and vigorously. The supply and demand of goods is guaranteed to be rich and abundant, meeting the consumption needs of the people.
In the first 8 months of 2023, the total retail sales of goods and service revenue of 05 centrally-run cities accounted for 38.33% of the country. Consumer markets with large proportions such as Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi continued to recover and grow, contributing significantly to the 10% growth in total retail sales of goods and service revenue of the country in the first 8 months of 2023, specifically: Can Tho City increased by 12.62%, Da Nang City increased by 20.2%, Hanoi City increased by 10.9%, Hai Phong City increased by 13.51%, Ho Chi Minh City increased by 7.6%.
Regarding import and export: The export turnover of 5 cities in the first 8 months of 2023 accounted for 24.8% of the total export turnover of the country (Da Nang City decreased by 14.1%; Hanoi City decreased by 3.8%; Hai Phong City decreased by 1%; Ho Chi Minh City decreased by 15.4%). 3/5 centrally-run cities (Hanoi City, Hai Phong City, Ho Chi Minh City) are in the Top 10 localities with the largest trade turnover and export turnover in the country. In which, Ho Chi Minh City is the locality with the largest trade turnover of 63.4 billion USD, export turnover reaching 27.7 billion USD (Ho Chi Minh City is also the only locality out of 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam with a turnover above the 60 billion USD mark); followed by Hanoi with a total trade turnover of 34.33 billion USD, of which export turnover reached 10.95 billion USD and Hai Phong with a total trade turnover of 29.13 billion USD, of which export turnover reached 15.59 billion USD.
