The Center is an important component of the SATREPS EDFEN Technical Cooperation Project using non-refundable ODA capital from the Government of Japan.
The project is chaired by the University of Science , Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), co-funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
The project's goal is to develop high technology to manufacture fast, easy-to-use analytical equipment and strengthen human resources for food safety and environmental quality control, and to enhance cooperation according to the "3-house" model - the state, scientists and businesses.
In the context of Vietnam's rapid economic development, pressure on the environment, especially water and air quality, is also increasing due to the industrialization process. Previously, analysis of factors affecting the environment was mainly conducted in laboratories, which was time-consuming, costly and human-intensive, and limited the ability to respond promptly.
To improve the situation, the project has promoted cooperation between Vietnamese and Japanese experts and scientists in developing analytical devices based on microfluidic technology and electrochemical detection techniques. These devices allow direct assessment of water and air quality on site.
In addition, the Japan Analytical Instrument Manufacturers Association (JAIMA) has sent experts to directly participate in teaching capacity building training programs under the project.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Minh Son expressed his hope that the Center will contribute to improving environmental quality in Vietnam.
