Pinar del Río is a city in Cuba, the capital of the province of Pinar del Río . The city has an area of 70.7 km² (inner city) and a total area of 708 km², with a population in 2002 of 189,221 (total) and 152,200 (inner city). The city is located in a tobacco- growing region and is a center of the tanning industry. The people of this city are called Pinareños in Spanish. It is home to the University of Pinar del Rio .
