Inauguration of Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monument in Svay Rieng province

On the morning of February 27, in Svay Rieng province in southeastern Cambodia, bordering Vietnam, the inauguration ceremony of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monument took place, the 18th out of 23 Friendship Monuments being built in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

 

According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Cambodia, the ceremony was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang; Direct Supreme Advisor to the King of Cambodia, Vice President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), President of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland, President of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association Samdech Men Sam An; Mr. Nhem Valy, member of the CPP Central Committee, Permanent Vice President, Secretary General of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland; and delegates from agencies, departments, sectors and armed forces of Svay Rieng province.

 

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang said that the beautiful and solemn Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monument in Svay Rieng province today is the result of the attention and close direction of the leaders of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland, the Front's General Secretary, and leaders of Svay Rieng province, the Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Motherland of Svay Rieng province, as well as the people and armies of Vietnam and Cambodia.

 

Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang affirmed that the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monument in Svay Rieng province in particular and the total of 23 Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monuments in general are a deep recognition of the timely, sincere and noble assistance of the Vietnamese people and volunteer soldiers to Cambodia in the struggle to overthrow the Pol Pot genocidal regime and the cause of building and developing a prosperous Cambodia as it is today.

 

Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang emphasized that the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monument is also an important element in the history of the two countries, contributingto educating future generations about the value of peace and freedom, as well as raising awareness of the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

 

On this occasion, the Vietnamese Ambassador thanked Secretary General Nhem Valy and the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland, leaders of Svay Rieng provincial government at all levels, and relevant agencies, ministries and sectors for participating in and facilitating the construction of a project of great value and profound significance such as the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument in Svay Rieng province.

 

Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang also expressed his hope that the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia will continue to develop and be sustainable in the long term.

 

For his part, CPP Vice President Samdech Men Sam An said Cambodia and Vietnam are two good neighbors and good friends, having gone through difficulties and challenges together in many historical periods.

 

Up to now, the two countries have turned a new page in history, achieving peace, territorial integrity, progress, development and confident progress, contributing to peace, cooperation, prosperity and economic development of the region and the world.

 

On behalf of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland and the Cambodia - Vietnam Friendship Association, Ms. Men Sam An once again expressed her sincere and deep appreciation and gratitude, and forever remembered the great contributions of the Party, State, Front, Army and People of Vietnam who have devoted and sacrificed for the cause of liberation and rescue of the Fatherland and people from the disaster of the genocidal regime, contributing to the process of finding peace for Cambodia.

 

Vietnam's support and assistance have contributed to helping Cambodia progress from a country filled with the tragedy of war to a country with complete peace, development in all fields and complete territorial unity.

 

Considering that the inauguration of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Monument today aims to honor the increasingly close and solid traditional solidarity, friendship and cooperation between the two countries, Ms. Samdech Men Sam An emphasized: “CPP, the Cambodian Fatherland Development Solidarity Front and the Cambodian people would like to express their gratitude and consider today's inauguration of the monument as a concrete image, demonstrating the continued cultivation, consolidation, enhancement and expansion of the tradition of solidarity, friendship and good cooperation between the people of Cambodia and Vietnam for a long-term sustainability.”

 

Also at the ceremony, Mr. Nhem Valy, Permanent Vice President and General Secretary of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland, reviewed the formation process and construction progress of 23 Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Monuments from the 1980s to the present. Of these, 18 monuments have been inaugurated in the capital Phnom Penh and the provinces, and 5 monuments have been completed and are preparing to be inaugurated in the provinces of Oddar Meanchey, Prey Veng, Siem Reap, Pailin and Tbong Khmum. In addition, relevant parties are also surveying the construction site of the monument in Pursat province.

 

Recalling the history of the establishment of the Cambodian National Salvation Solidarity Front (December 2, 1978), the predecessor of the Cambodian National Development Solidarity Front today, the victory of January 7, 1979 and the sacrifice of Vietnamese soldiers, patriots and volunteers in the struggle to overthrow the Pol Pot genocidal regime, on behalf of the Party, the Front, the Cambodian people and on his own behalf, Mr. Nhem Valy expressed his gratitude to the Party, the State, the Government, the Front and the Vietnamese people for sending their husbands, wives and children to join the Front movement, helping to liberate Cambodia from the Pol Pot genocidal regime, achieving glorious victory on January 7, 1979.

 

“That is a historical fact that cannot be forgotten. And I understand clearly that without December 2 and January 7, we would not have today,” he stressed.

 

Within the framework of the program, the organizers presented gifts to representatives of the young generation of mass organizations in Svay Rieng province. The units participating in organizing the event also gave each other meaningful souvenirs at a meaningful event, warm with the friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

 

Before the end of the program, the delegates respectfully placed flower baskets and offered incense at the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument in Svay Rieng province, which was just inaugurated, expressing the feelings and gratitude of today's generation to the heroic martyrs who fell for the revival of the country of pagodas and temples, and fostered the special friendship and affection between the people of the two neighboring countries of Vietnam and Cambodia.
