The 500 kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line project has a scale of 500 kV double circuit line with a total length of 229.5 km, 468 pole foundation locations. The project passes through Lao Cai and Phu Tho provinces, starting from the 500 kV Lao Cai station and ending at the 500 kV Vinh Yen station.
The total investment of the project is more than 7,410 billion VND.
Previously, on September 30, the 500 kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line project was successfully energized, 8 months ahead of schedule compared to the original plan according to the project investment policy decision approved by the Prime Minister .
Once put into operation, the 500 kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen line will be able to transmit about 3,000 MW from hydropower plants in the Northwest region and neighboring provinces to the national grid and contribute to increasing the ability to import electricity when necessary. At the same time, it will create strong links between regions in the power system; improving the ability to operate safely and stably for the national power system.

At the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc emphasized that the 500 kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen line is a project of special importance in ensuring national energy security, contributing to concretizing the direction of the Politburo and the Government's commitment to not allowing power shortages in any situation, creating a solid foundation to promote growth of over 8% in 2025 and double-digit growth in the coming years.
The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that Vietnam's socio-economic growth target during this period requires the electricity industry to focus on development, increasing annual power generation capacity by about 15-18% (equivalent to 8,000-10,000 MW) to ensure electricity supply for economic development and attract domestic and foreign investment.
Accordingly, the 500 kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen line project is of special importance, promptly increasing the power transmission capacity from hydropower plants in the Northwest region and neighboring provinces to the national grid by about 3,000 MW. In the future, the project will also meet the demand for cooperation in power supply with China; ensuring proactiveness and flexibility in directing, operating and balancing power supply.
The project was completed after just over 6 months of implementation, nearly 8 months shorter than the approved schedule. The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that this was a lightning-fast construction progress, a record, and a proud achievement.

Furthermore, the rapid construction and completion of the project, ahead of schedule in an area with particularly difficult and complex terrain and geology, construction in unusual weather conditions, large volume, complex techniques, requiring precision and synchronization... has demonstrated the determination, maturity and remarkable growth of the electricity industry as well as the efforts of localities in site clearance and ensuring construction conditions.
On behalf of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc acknowledged the efforts and determination of EVN, Power Project Management Board 1, consultants, construction contractors, equipment suppliers and related units; commended the local police and military forces, Military Region 2, militia and self-defense forces and union members who have supported the electricity industry for many months to ensure the quality and progress of the project with the spirit of "once in action, victory".
The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged and thanked the people of all ethnic groups in the localities for their support, giving up their housing and farming land... so that the project could be constructed smoothly, ahead of schedule and put into operation.
He also highly appreciated the sense of responsibility, initiative and determination of the leaders of Lao Cai and Phu Tho provinces; the active participation of the entire political system of the localities where the power line passes through, which have promptly and proactively done well the work of site clearance, resettlement, meeting the project's progress, and preventing complicated complaints.
After the inauguration ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister requested EVN to continue investing in developing power sources and grid systems, ensuring adequate and stable supply of electricity for socio-economic development; and carry out project settlement in accordance with regulations.
