Providing an additional 3,000 MW of electricity.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam's socio -economic growth targets for this period require the electricity sector to focus on development, increasing power generation capacity annually by approximately 15-18% (equivalent to 8,000-10,000 MW) to ensure electricity supply for economic development and attract domestic and foreign investment.

Given this reality, the Lao Cai - Vinh Yen 500 kV transmission line project is of particular importance, promptly increasing the power transmission capacity from hydropower plants in the Northwest region and neighboring provinces to the national grid by approximately 3,000 MW. At the same time, it will meet future electricity supply cooperation needs with China; ensuring proactive and flexible management, balancing electricity supply, and guaranteeing national energy security.

The 500 kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen double-circuit transmission line has a total length of 229.5 km and a total of 468 tower foundation locations. The project passes through two provinces, Lao Cai and Phu Tho (formerly four provinces: Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, and Vinh Phuc), with the starting point at the 500 kV Lao Cai substation and the end point at the 500 kV Vinh Yen substation. The total investment for the project is over 7,410 billion VND.

To ensure synchronized and efficient operation, the second phase of the Lao Cai 500kV Substation project, with a total investment of over 1,564 billion VND, has also been completed, including the construction and energization of the 500kV switchyard and 500kV transformers, in order to synchronize with the Lao Cai - Vinh Yen 500kV transmission line project.

After commissioning, the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line will be capable of transmitting approximately 3,000 MW from hydropower plants in the Northwest region and neighboring provinces to the national grid, increasing the capacity for electricity imports. Simultaneously, it will create a strong link between regions within the power system; improve the safe and stable operation of the national power system; reduce power losses in the transmission grid; and increase the efficiency of electricity production and business for EVN.

Six months of rapid construction.

According to EVN, with the highest level of determination and effort, implementing the "4 on-site" construction method, "3 shifts, 4 teams," "overcoming sun and rain," and "working through holidays and weekends," after more than 6 months of construction, the project has completed the main construction volume including: Excavating nearly 1.8 million m3 of soil and rock for foundation pits; Pouring nearly 110,000 m3 of concrete with approximately 7,500 tons of reinforcement steel; Producing and erecting 55,000 tons of steel poles; and laying more than 6,000 km of various types of cables (26 conductors, lightning protection wires, and fiber optic cables).

This schedule has shortened the timeline by nearly 8 months compared to the approved schedule.
