| Women's association members from Thuy Luong ward participate in a recreational volleyball competition. |
Every afternoon, Ms. Tran Thi Xuan, from Group 6, Phu Bai Ward, Huong Thuy Town, and her fellow women go to the court to practice. “Soft volleyball isn't a popular sport here, so when the club was first established, only a few members participated. But when they saw the benefits of this sport, many members started to get acquainted with it and practice. Gradually, for us women, soft volleyball is not only a passion but also a sport to improve our health and relieve stress after a hard day's work,” Ms. Xuan said.
Besides practicing for fun and entertainment, the volleyball club of Group 8, Phu Bai Ward, also regularly participates in competitions and exchanges with other volleyball clubs in the town.
Although she hasn't been playing recreational volleyball for long, Ms. Le Thi Sen from Group 8, Phu Bai Ward, has hardly missed a single session. "Playing recreational volleyball is really beneficial. It's a sport that involves almost the entire body, so it helps us women release energy and improve our health very well. We only skip sessions on rainy or windy days; otherwise, the members participate regularly," Ms. Sen said.
Ms. Vo Thi Thao Nguyen, President of the Women's Union of Phu Bai Ward, said: "From one club of the Women's Union of the ward with more than a dozen members, the branches have now established five volleyball clubs with more than 50 members participating. Usually after 5 PM every day, the women gather at the courts to practice and have fun for 1-2 hours. This sport also attracts students and young people in the residential areas to participate in training, friendly matches, and lively competitions."
Not only in Phu Bai Ward Women's Union, but the soft volleyball movement has also been replicated by Thuy Luong Ward Women's Union and several other localities, attracting members to participate.
The Women's Union of Thuy Luong Ward also organizes friendly matches and competitions in recreational volleyball during holidays. Currently, all 7 branches of the Women's Union of Thuy Luong Ward have established recreational volleyball clubs, and these clubs practice very enthusiastically and diligently.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tram Anh, Vice President of the Women's Union of Huong Thuy town, said: "To contribute to promoting the health training movement among female members, the Women's Union at all levels, from the town to the grassroots, has been organizing competitions and exchanges in folk dance and sports. Through these competitions and exchange programs, we have contributed to strengthening propaganda among cadres, female members, and the people about the benefits of physical exercise and sports training to improve health. From there, we encourage female members to actively participate in various art forms and physical activities suitable for training. Many women have chosen their favorite sport, with the motto 'exercising is not only about maintaining health but also a way to beautify'."
After training sessions, club members also incorporate the dissemination of knowledge about reproductive health care, family planning, environmental hygiene, and building "5 no's, 3 clean" families... for the members.
