On April 23, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel) broke ground on the Viettel High-Tech Research and Development Data Center in Tan Phu Industrial Park. The project marks a major step forward for Vietnam's data infrastructure, and was started on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (1975-2025).
The project is deployed on an area of nearly 4 hectares, with a total designed capacity of up to 140 MW of electricity and about 10,000 racks (cabinets containing network equipment). This is the first data center in Vietnam to reach a capacity of more than 100 MW, equivalent to large centers in the world.
The center is designed and operated according to international standards Uptime Tier III, with an average power density of 10kW/rack, 2.5 times higher than the average in Vietnam. The highest rack capacity is up to 60kW, meeting the high-performance computing needs of large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) models and applications.
To achieve this high power density, the data center applies advanced cooling technologies and an intelligent management system based on artificial intelligence "made by Viettel".
The groundbreaking of Tan Phu Trung data center is an important milestone in Viettel's journey to create national digital infrastructure, demonstrating its commitment to pioneering and leading the way in building a digital economy in Vietnam.
The scale, technology and sustainability of the project are consistent with the orientations in Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation and Decision No. 36/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on planning information and communications infrastructure.
Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of Viettel Group, emphasized: The super-large-scale data center in Tan Phu Trung is not a single project. This is a "piece" of strategic importance in the overall picture of digital infrastructure that Viettel is continuing to build - an ecosystem in which data is stored, transmitted, processed and protected in the safest way.
Viettel's digital infrastructure "pieces" include 15 data centers operating in Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, and Binh Duong. This year, Viettel will complete 20,000 5G broadcasting stations, ensuring coverage of 95% of urban residential areas nationwide. The high-speed connection infrastructure and super-scale computing infrastructure are ready to provide comprehensive services to people, businesses, and the government.

Not simply a strategic decision in terms of infrastructure, Tan Phu Trung data center is also Viettel's long-term commitment to Ho Chi Minh City in the new development phase. Viettel is also committed to implementing the project with the highest speed, discipline and quality. Phase 1 of the project is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2026 and the entire project will be completed before 2030.
