Construction of Ka Zam Reservoir headworks began

Don Duong district has an agricultural production sector that accounts for a high proportion in the economy , over 54%. In 2015, the district was recognized by the Prime Minister as the first district in the Central Highlands and South Central regions to meet the standards of a new rural district. Inheriting that achievement, the district continued to be selected by provincial leaders as a district to build up to the standards of a model new rural district by 2025.

Ka Zam Reservoir Perspective

As a key vegetable production area of the province, the need for clean water for irrigation is very important, but the district currently has mainly small dams and lakes that do not provide enough water in the dry season. From that need, the construction of Ka Zam reservoir has been desired by the Party Committee, government and people of Don Duong district since the year 2000. Through many petitions to all levels and sectors in the province and the Central Government, through many channels such as direct petitions, petitions through the National Assembly forum, People's Council, and voter meetings, by 2004, the project was considered and resolved by Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee in Document No. 812/UB dated March 5, 2004, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee on the investment policy of the Ka Zam reservoir construction project in Don Duong district.

The project to build Ka Zam reservoir in Ka Do commune, Don Duong district was approved by Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee with a total investment of 496 billion VND, to be implemented in the period of 2022 - 2025. Of which, the construction cost is more than 292.6 billion VND; compensation and site clearance costs are more than 106.5 billion VND; the rest are management, consulting, equipment, contingency and other costs.

Ka Zam Reservoir is a group B agricultural and rural development project, a level II key project, a level IV canal system, after completion with the capacity to supply irrigation water for 820 hectares of agricultural land (converted to 3 crops/year), including 67 hectares of rice and 751 hectares of vegetables and crops; aquaculture, flood reduction and landscape improvement...; creating a source of domestic water supply for Ka Do commune and surrounding areas; supplying water for Ka Do industrial cluster with a capacity of ^2,500m3 /day and night.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Duong Duc Dai - Chairman of Don Duong District People's Committee emphasized: Don Duong District identifies the Ka Zam reservoir project as a very important project of the locality, a key project of the province and the district. The project has a total area of 99.82 hectares, a water storage capacity of over 4 million ^m3 , not only providing irrigation water for over 800 hectares of agricultural land, but also in the long term, this is a source of clean water for the people of Thanh My town, Ka Do, Quang Lap, Lac Lam communes and Ka Do Industrial Cluster; at the same time, attracting the development of eco-tourism and picnics. The implementation of the project is an important political task, the district is committed to focusing highly on human resources, material resources and time to work with related units to construct the project on schedule, ensuring quality. He also recommended that provincial leaders and departments continue to pay attention and help with investment policy adjustments, land use conversion, and canal construction (2026-2030 period).

At the same time, he thanked the households for their agreement and support in the site clearance work to create conditions for the investor and project management unit to start the project soon; thanked the support of the political system, religious dignitaries, village elders, and prestigious people in Ta Ly 2 village, Ka Do commune, Don Duong district in the propaganda work, creating consensus among cadres, party members and people in the project area.

Provincial leaders, departments and localities together performed the official groundbreaking ceremony for the Ka Zam Reservoir project.

This is a key and important project that contributes to completing the irrigation system, solving the shortage of irrigation water for agricultural production and creating a source of domestic water for people in Don Duong district, combined with creating a tourist landscape and aquaculture in the lake.

With the significance and importance of the Ka Zam Reservoir Project, in order to ensure that the project is implemented smoothly and in accordance with the project's objectives, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Ngoc Hiep requested the Don Duong District authorities to strengthen the direction of affiliated units to closely coordinate with investors, consulting units, and construction contractors during the project implementation and construction process; continue to propagate, mobilize, and create consensus among the people in the project area; fully and promptly pay compensation costs, support site clearance and hand over the site to implement the project right after today's ceremony. Pay attention to and create the best conditions for the lives and livelihoods of people whose cultivated land is recovered. Direct the investor (Don Duong District Public Works Construction Investment Project Management Board) to closely coordinate with construction contractors, consulting contractors, and supervise the implementation of the project to ensure the progress and quality of the project.

Construction contractors, consulting units, and construction supervisors must have specific and detailed plans to ensure the correct implementation of commitments in the contract signed with the investor; organize construction and supervise construction works to ensure quality, efficiency, technique, and aesthetics of the works, strive to exceed progress and absolutely ensure safety in labor, environmental sanitation, and minimize the impact of the construction site on production and the living environment of people in the area.

For the cadres, party members and people in the project area, the provincial leaders hope, trust and hope that each person, especially households in the project area, for the common benefit, will agree and be ready to support the investment policy of the Ka Zam Reservoir Construction Project; continue to agree on the compensation plan and promptly hand over the site for project implementation; at the same time, share and sympathize with the difficulties and inconveniences in changing the production location and during the construction period.
